Re: Vertical Limit, you guys are seeing exactly what the editors want you to see and feel. There's no "terminal velocity and then stop"; those people are only dropping 6 to 10 inches. It's all editing to create the sense of speed of fall and distance of rope letting out before being jerked to a stop. Watch the sequence again. You can see that both the man and woman aren't falling far at all. Again, editors do *soooo* much heavy lifting when it comes to filmmaking.

When I heard Ray Park was “guesting” (as a way to put it) as Maul in the fight for clone wars and it was completely worth it. As a fight for the series goes it was amazing, best one ever. The mo cap made it 100 times better than usual animating it, and Ray Park knocked it up that extra gear making Maul move as he should do. It feels more Maul, and can easily see how well Lauren and Ray work with each other to pull off the amazing mo cap data needed. Completely organic feeling!

Yeah, as a rock climber and mountaineer myself I always cringe when I see that scene. I took a lot of fall on trad gear, sometimes ripping one or two pieces out, and that scene jeeeez it almost gets me angry.
@benjesterw4 жыл бұрын
Yeah its crazy how some stuff can be so realistic but the rock climbing specific like 2 cams coming off and one not
@bellini98-14 жыл бұрын
@@benjesterw well, it's entirely possible that 2 shoot out and one not, that's not the point. It's more outrageous the scene of her trying to put one more in and not pushing off the other rope going down to her partners to get closer to the rock for example. Or simply the fact that a good cam, good enough to catch that fall is starting to walk itself out of the crack under load. Or the fact that their grigri act like an atc. Or many other stuff. I never had the nerves to watch the entire film after seeing the first scenes there and some of the "best of" of the rest of the film. No thanks.

For reference, Vertical Limit came out in 2000 and The Mummy Scorpion King came out in 2002. So, just on CG effects alone, it's a lot more believable.

That scene at 6:00 is a perfect example of how modern movie making ruins great stunt work. The behind the scenes footage looks awesome! The finished scene has so much done in post and is edited so frantically, they might have just as well done the whole thing in front of a green screen or go full CG.

Ahh! Ray Park is one of my favorites! I got to meet him at a convention a while ago and he really does just exude this energy that you can't help but feed off of. He's absolutely awesome to his fans. I'm glad they got him and Lauren to do mo-cap in the final season of Clone Wars. As Lauren pointed out, it made a HUGE difference. When I watched it, I immediately went "whoa! This feels real?" then I later saw the articles that talked about them doing this. She and Ray did a great job with that fight sequence.

Came down to this comment thinking exactly that, but not expecting to see someone comment it. Agree entirely. The post grading and choice of shot ruined all the effort put into it. The initial "wooden block" 3/4 shot looks unbelievable - should have kept it for the slide.

The original scene in the episode is longer and the color is better. It looks like wherever the Crew got this clip from wasn't the best source. Can't totally defend the choice of angles in the final edit though.

@AwakenedSomnabulist4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I've also thought that about most of the Marvel stunts they've shown - they all look better before the flashy edits and extensive CGI that just lends an air of fake to something that was actually real and super cool (same with Tom Cruise's plane-jump in that MI movie)
@mathunit14 жыл бұрын
@@AwakenedSomnabulist No.
@AwakenedSomnabulist4 жыл бұрын
@@mathunit1 you're wrong, but OK. Why insert a lot of bad CGI and fast editing when you're actually looking at a real one-take stunt? Just remove the wires and it looks fifty times better. Marvel stuff can be fun, but the art of filmmaking seems like it's being drowned in a pool of green-screen and pointless CGI.

Recently rewatched the A-Team movie. The stunts in that are wild and the action scenes are nuts. I'd love to see a breakdown of the running down the side of the building heist (if those were the actors or stunt doubles or a mixture of both, i know Brian Bloom does a lot of his own stunts). Also the tanker truck heist looked like a good combo of CG and practical, a breakdown of that would be cool. And the stunt with Rampage Jackson jumping out of the moving prison bus really looked like him doing it.

Oh, sorry. I thought you wrote "Wren". I think that with the Covid thing, a lot of people were not going out to get haircuts, and so the option was to either stress out about it, or just decide that afros are cool again. Some people just decided that hairstyle will be fashionable now. So I guess since you said Clint instead of Wren, that means everyone else already realized that afros were cool again and so its embarrassing to notice it. Oh well.
