Perhaps you might know the answer to this question. After researching the Guards in Wikipedia, I read that they dedicate their lives, in every aspect to the monarch they serve, or is this only for the period of their enlistment? Seems like quite a sacrifice to make if true.

@@cbufffly EVERY British soldier soldier owes their allegiance to the crown and Govt. In the pledge of every soldier they swear to protect both the crown and the person of the Monarch and their heirs. This oath is ofc only binding for their time serving in the armed forces however most soldiers hold that oath as binding throughout their lives. With the HH Division this is a little more personal since they are the "personal" ceremonial bodyguard of the monarch and holding a position as a HH Div Guardsman or HH Cav trooper in whatever Regiment is a source of great pride.

To stand close to a Guard and laugh is dreadful,, How totally disrespectful can you get.. Shame on these people.. This is not a theme park and these are highly trained soldiers , who at the drop of a hat will rush to join their regiments at battle across the world at a moment's notice, yet we can mock them for doing their duties.. Shame on anyone who thinks this is the right thing to do. We owe them a great deal for hundreds of years now.. Their pride in their daily duties is wonderful. We should be thanking them not obusing them.

Someone asked you if anyone has ever shouted back at the Guards , Buska has a video of a man shouting at the boxman everyone had been told to stand behind the bollards as changeover was imminent a woman decided to run forward and stand right next to the horse , the Trooper quite rightly shouted " stand clear of the Kings Lifeguard" husband shouted " Or what , or what " ! MOD police came over and he rapidly did a runner to the other horse and hid behind his poor wife ! He wasn't a young man either , should have known better unless he wanted his wife trampled by a very large horse ! The Trooper as gatesman has a real presence about him when he marches to his post . As usual thanks John , you always brighten my day xxx

As for the uniform, I'd give a lot to see you trying to get all that kit on in a hurry. 😂..... A horse can hear your heartbeat, even in a busy city, up to 6 feet away, and their sense of smell is incredible!!! If you are a smoker, and they don't like smokers, it can upset the horses. Could the second white line be painted yellow (or red?, or black, if it’s less intrusive to the historical nature of the buildings, etc) and people could be told to stand behind the (whichever other colour) line? Because if they’re looking down, people think “I am standing behind the white line”. (It might not take as many repetitions of the instructions if that were the case.) Also, maybe another line in front of the arches might help people realize not to go into the middle sections of the archway where the guards are. They might think since they can stand in front of the chain and there’s no chain in the centre, they can go there. I mean, if you don’t work there or haven’t lived in London and/or watched these videos and seen it a hundred times, how would you know?
