@PoopaChallupa4 жыл бұрын
@Excelsior Same way that Boba fett isn't a mandalorian. Jedi is a creed, a way of life. A Jedi is not just someone with force powers. Luke wasn't a Jedi either until episode 6. Watch Luke in episode 5 to see Luke make every mistake a Jedi would not. Not to mention, the sequels never go into the biggest lesson a Jedi has to learn. The seductive power of the dark side. It's the whole reason the Jedi train. Instead Rey is constantly screaming and wielding her saber first in every confrontation. Watch her stab Kylo in RoS with such anger and tell me I'm wrong. That's not a Jedi. I don't care how much floating you do. A Jedi never wields their saber in offense. They are the last to turn theirs on. Even Vader knew this in Empire. Watch Vader in Empire, he was in complete control, while he watch luke make every mistake. Not surprising considering Vader was once a Jedi. Well, training to be one. Vader ultimately failed his training. But he understood the training Why do you think the counsel didn't grant him Jedi Master in episode 3? George spent 6 movies explaining this, yet you act like it's some big secret. Throughout all 3 sequels, i never once felt that Rey could turn to the dark side. It was never brought up as the threat it should be. Yet, she does everything a Jedi is trained not to. The Screaming she does in every movie is in anger, yet it's never shown how anger leads to the dark side. She's a Jedi as much as a kid in school dissecting a frog is a doctor. I could keep going, but you should have the idea by now. Plenty of great videos on KZbin you can watch if you still aren't convinced.
@RoninDave4 жыл бұрын
@@PoopaChallupa good point. a big point of the originals was the danger of the allure of the dark side. In the first film, it's mentioned how Darth Vader was seduced by its power. Then it was more explored in Empire with Luke confronting a vision of himself in Vader's armor on Dagobah suggesting what could happen to him. Then in the 3rd film he is tempted to turn ironically for good reasons first to save his doomed friends from the Emperor's trap then his sister from being corrupted. It's then we see him give into his anger and physically defeat Vader until he stops himself at the last moment and rejects the Dark Side. We are supposed to understand he came very close to falling to the Dark Side. Rey on the other hand never has this temptation thruout the series despite showing signs that she could easily fall to the Dark Side (especially out of hubris). Even the dark side place in Dagobah shows nothing of this sort. Nor is the Emperor interested in turning her to the Dark Side as he was with Vader, Luke, and Kylo. If she killed him like he wanted at first, he'd have possessed her like some Biblical demon whereas if Luke did Luke would have surrendered to the Dark Side. That internal struggle was completely absent in Rey which is yet another reason why her character is so boring and unrelatable.
@atomic_yt554 жыл бұрын

@@RoninDave I completely agree. The movies built zero tension and the RoS was the worst offender. Not only did they undo Anakin's story arc, they failed to make us believe there was any chance of Rey turning to the dark side. TLJ is a whole other problem. Why continue the Skywalker story(which already concluded) if you're just going to crap on the OG characters and replace them with substandard, undeveloped characters... They should have done 1 of 2 things, either use Lucas' story for future Skywalker series, or do your own storyline. Disney should have made something completely separate from Skywalker. Instead of cashing in on nostalgia and member berries.

Sorry but the prequels were s**t, no, it wasn't all sunshine and roses back then, how do you think we got Disney? Crazy Georgie had to sell it because he ruined it first with the crappy prequels and the stupidity in those films, Disney just gave the final stab to a franchise that can't be faithful to the originals untouched by crazy georgie, release the theatrical versions of Star Wars untouched and in 4K quality and you'll see this franchise alive and kicking again, all rest is cow dung. Even the Ewoks movie and the Christmas special are better than the prequels and sequels together, I don't even know who buys star wars blurays anymore? Even the originals as they were massacred by George Lucas in the 90's with the senile special edition...

Little Chestnut uh no one was talking about the prequels so not sure what sparked your little rant. In a weird way, i'm glad the sequel trilogy happened as the prequels finally got the recognition they deserved. The cuts where they remove the needless alien/droid shenanigans make it so much more watchable. I know C-3P0 and R2 were always kinda the comic relief but it was subtle or at least subdued like the conversation about accidentally thawing the princess' room on Hoth, or 3P0 just being an ass to R2, etc. It was there, but it was quick, over-and-done as soon as it happened. No one was fumbling their own head through a droid factory for 12 minutes of screen time.

Nah sorry Ep 1-3 were much better than 7-9, but they were still actually pretty lame films, with the exception of Ep3 which was decent, but that itself , was a salvage job at the time. The prequels are average films, not great films, average. People don't want to hear it (below a certain age because they grew up with the prequels) . Really ...the prequels were the beginning of the end for Star Wars. I dont know how old you are but I was 18 when Phantom menace came out, and EP1 and 2 were not considered anything more than crap. EP3 was Lucas' last ditch effort to make the Prequels work, and whist being better than EP1 and 2 by quite some way, it was still riddled with attempts to satisfy the audience. I remember Lucas before Ep3 sounding exactly like JJ just before the release of Ep9 .I remember everyone hating Ep1 and 2 , almost as much as 8 and 9 are hated now. EP3 was considered a good film but somewhat clumsy , and could have been much much better. Also the prequels have a strange feel, which is not very Star Wars. The original trilogy were special, the Prequel Trilogy were band average and the Sequel trilogy is basically runny shit after eating a dodgy meal. I mean FFS Vader getting in his costume and the whole "Noooooooooo" crap end of Ep3, which they then went back and dubbed over the end of Return of the Jedi , when Vader chucks the Emperor down the shaft of the Death Star, that crap was added. Shit like that is just fucking terrible and makes Vader into some kind of cartoon character. 7-9 are just so bad people have forgotten how bad Ep1-3 are, I lived through it and remember it clearly, the hype pre, and the disappointment after. Just because something is fucking terrible, does not mean it makes something Average into something great

This might sound like I'm nitpicking, but it actually bothers me that throughout the sequel trilogy, the word “lightsaber” is only used twice! Disney calls it a “laser sword” or “saber”, which really takes away the mystical qualities of the weapon. Well even though the whole palpi clone thematic is weird, it wouldt break the rule of two, because it isnt like there are 100 palpi's running around, it more likely seems that if he dies, one clone takes his place and so on. The only issue in that regard is, that palpi would always be the master who "reincarnates" himself over and over, while actually the apprentice is meant to kill his master if he is strong enough to take his place.

Palpatine abandoned the Rule of Two long ago. Darth Maul was still his apprentice even when Palpatine was an apprentice to Darth Plagueis. Count Dooku was his apprentice even though Darth Maul was still alive even if nobody knew it. I have no idea what Asajj Ventress was in the hierarchy of everything, she was kind of just a Sith affiliated assassin. Even Darth Plageuis didn’t really follow the Rule of Two. He was so utterly convinced of his own immortality that he was planning on killing Palpatine and instate his own Rule of One. There is no need for an apprentice when he is immortal.

If you want Hux as a spy who "just wants Kylo Ren to loose", have him working for Palpatine. In that case, if you want to bring Palpatine back, have Hux be the one to do it. And maybe have Hux selectively leak to the resistance because Palpatine wants both the resistance and Kylo's first order gone. It's still not great but it's Citizen Kane compared to what JJ delivered (let's be honest, every movie that isn't Shamalan's Last Airbender movie is) being that it builds on the Kylo/Hux rivalry from TLJ in a logical way. Hux is the non-force user who wants to be emperor (seen when he was pulling his blaster on Kylo), if you want to bring Palpatine back Hux needs to be integral to it. The setup is actually there for it if you want that direction but JJ took the easy way out since he does bad remakes poorly disguised as sequals, and dammit his episode 9 was going to be a bad remake of Return of the Jedi whether it made sense or not.

Goes into TLJ as an edgy teen who is actually a fully grown adult who disrespects and literally assaults one of the galaxy's greatest ever heroes. Ends up in ROS with the personality of a sith, yet is "All of the jedi" and eventually steals Luke's identity and home, after fulfilling palpatine's promise of her killing him, which should have caused her to be possessed by him or whatever bullshit JJ was selling at the time. I remember being 9 or 10 years old anticipating the sequel trilogy, and then I watched TFA and thought that it was alright until I realized "Wait, this is just Episode IV again. I already have it on Blu-Ray." I didn't care for Rey at all in it. Finn seemed interesting until they destroyed his character in the next two movies by making him a simp for the character that I didn't care for at all. I would've loved to see a rogue stormtrooper go on a journey to become a Jedi. Then I waited two years for TLJ. I watched and was bored out of my mind. Then I realized that it was complete dogshit. By the time Rise of Skywalker came, out it was close to my birthday. My parents asked: "Do you want to see the new Star Wars?" And I said "No." I am glad that I voted with my wallet and didn't see it in theaters. My parents decided to get Disney+, and then I said "well it's already paid for, so I might as well". I watched it and I loathed Rise of Skywalker in its entirety. I hated the plot. I hated the characters. And I hated the inconsistency with the previous eight films. Hell, it wasn't even consistent with itself. Somehow Rey survives healing Ben Solo, but when Ben heals Rey HE FUCKING DIES! Someone, please explain that to me? I don't care for Star Wars anymore, except for Mandalorian. I would say Clone Wars, but that's over now. It saddens me that I was only able to love the true Star Wars from age 7 to 9 or 10. That's around 2-3 years of it.

there are only 6 star wars films. the OT and the PT the PT were mishandled but still fit in with the greater universe. the ST starts off with destroying/neutering everything the Legacy characters accomplished by starting the trilogy off for the most part right where episode 4 started with the rebels(resistance) and the Empire(first Order). All because JJ Abrams is a talentless hack who couldn't tell an original story if his life depended on it. so he blatantly rips off the material of those more talented than him liberally tosses around his mystery boxes that go nowhere and fires up his lens flare generator to distract people long enough to get big box office money on a movie with zero re-watch value

@basteala5254 жыл бұрын
@@kungolaf4499 I , personally never *want* to be offended by anything, never mind a movie trilogy. Can't speak for anyone else. The reason why I *am* offended by the trilogy, personally, comes down to a few factors: 1) Like others said, it really shits on the previous stories that I knew and loved. TLJ had me down on the Sequels, but it was easier to ignore overall. RoS is harder to because it ultimately trivializes 5 good movies...and Phantom Menace. 2) This may be more personal for me, but I love a good female lead. They're so rare in Star Wars so when I saw the elements in Force Awakened with potential, albeit some spots that needed to be ironed out, I was excited. But I also have a high standard for such characters and Rey fails in every way. 3) Rise of Skywalker itself is an amalgam of all the things I disliked in the Sequels. The rushed narrative, the creative drought, the ass-pulls Lucasfilm calls plot twists, the overpowered main character who either overcomes an obstacle in two minutes of screen time, or crumbles under the pressure and gives up, undercooked, unrealized plot threads, and an absolute lack of respect for continuity. Finally, in the grand scheme of things, I'm not upset the Sequels sucked every moment of my life--trust me, there's plenty in 2020 that's more pressing to be upset about, lol. It doesn't change the fact that when I see the subject brought up that it's going to bring up bitter feelings, though. Let's be real. We turn to entertainment to get away from bullshit. We like stability and nostalgia and will stick to sources of entertain that have come through for us over many years. That's normal. When that industry fails you, and if it negates the achievements of the past, it's going to hurt, a lot. Baseball fans probably feel that way during the whole covid situation, or Astros fans that found out their team cheated, and ruined their championship legacy. It's just how we are as people.

@@oXRaptorzXo TLJ wanted to be a good film. When i saw it in theaters there were so many times were i went "Ok... this scene could fix this." and then it just takes a "subverted" turn. Like when finn was barreling towards the laser cannon all i could think was "OK im not happy they are killing him off but holy shit this is gonna be ep....... DID THAT STUPID GIRL JUST TRY TO KILL HIM??????? WHY IS SH KISSING HIM????? TF DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE TO SAVE EACHOTHER WHEN YOU ARE LITERALLY LETTING EVERYONE ELSE IN THE BASE DIE????? Rian deconstructed the whole damn saga out of existence.

I disagree to some extent. I think Rian did have some good ideas, but they were either executed horribly or inappropriate for the middle chapter of the trilogy. The critical analysis of the war between the Jedi and the Sith was actually a really good idea for the sequel trilogy as a whole, and would flow well with how the prequels showed the Jedi being arrogant and flawed. However, apart from a single line delivered from absolutely the wrong character (Kylo) about it being time to move beyond the Jedi and Sith, the idea goes nowhere. It should have been Luke that discovered that truth and made him the one to look for a new path forward, and this should have rolled into the trilogy's themes as a whole. Obviously, the trilogy has no themes or cohesiveness, which is a complete waste. Also, the ending where the heroes are decimated but triumphant, the bad guys have triumphed militarily but have been thoroughly humiliated and revealed how pathetic they are, and signs of hope with the force "awakening" in new heroes would actually have been a great ending to the trilogy as a whole. As in, the heroes may have lost this battle, but you know that they will win the war. However, having this be done in the middle film means there's no anticipation at all for watching the next film (as this video shows), because the villains have been undercut to the point where they are no longer a credible threat. It's like ending The Empire Strikes back with Vader pooping himself after Luke rejects his offer and Palpatine tripping over his own robes and bonking his head- you no longer care about the heroes defeating these villains.

@@lluewhyn If he'd left a single dangling plot thread that J.J. had evidently left for future writers to run with intact instead of slashing and burning it all down, I might be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but since he got everything, it looks way too much like intentional vandalism.

@@TheTurnipKing I don't disagree. That's why I said he had ideas, but some were inappropriate. Having your middle movie attempt to end the trilogy screws the next writer over as you said.

If Star Wars was the Titanic, then The Last Jedi would be the Titanic crashing into an iceberg. The Last Skywalker would be the Titanic breaking in half and sinking into the ocean.

Maybe as a slight tweak to the analogy, since the breaking in half and sinking was an unavoidable consequence of the ship hitting the iceberg and the rise of skywalker was not: How about the rise of skywalker was the crew of the ship locking everyone inside, since that was deliberate, just as that movie.
