Stupidity Vlogs | Stuck In Cannibal's Elevator and being EVACUATED! LAGOON 2017

My friend Kenyon and I were at Lagoon on Sunday, April 23, 2017 just for the hell of wanting to chill out and make use of our season passes we recently got. While at the park, we already rode Cannibal once earlier that day but upon going to the entrance around 11:30am, it was closed due to technical difficulties. Around two hours later (2PM), the ride was "stable" enough to opened again. When we got on the ride and our car left the station for the elevator lift, we noticed the maintenance lights were on. Shortly after entering the elevator, the elevator didn't move. Instead, the elevator dropped a few inches and stopped. While stuck, we heard a voice from behind us, a Lagoon attendant had come around to let us know that the ride had failed. My phone was in my pocket and this is when I knew the perfect opportunity to record it. What you see in the video is the footage I captured (with subtitles edited in). Enjoy!

I got stuck on it like a month ago but we got stuck at the bottom then we went up top then we were sitting up there for like 10-15 min because the worker had to walk up the 12 flights of stairs and somehow we managed to actually ride it and right before we went down that 200 ft 116 degree drop I said what if the worker thinks we are still stuck and unleashes the LAP BAR!!!!!!

Yeah. When we got in line, it went pretty fast. We were I believe the third car to be sent off before getting stuck and we only waited in line for about 5 minutes? Still, this was recorded during Lagoon's limited weekend openings so there was bound to be some technical failures in all the rides.

Oh trust me, it’s our favorite ride whenever we go! But we didn’t hate it, it was more or less an experience we never had before and it was quite fun!Also to be evacuated off Cannibal is an extremely rare opportunity so to manage and catch it on film was awesome! More or less Cannibal’s technical difficulties have been going down quite a bit so the likelihood of it breaking down is becoming less and less likely. Just hope if you go on it and have to evacuate, you aren’t stuck at the brakes before the “Lagoon Roll.”

DestinysPowerOfStupidity also, my sisters friend told me that her older sisters lap bar came up at the top of the elevator, so they had to stop the ride for about 15 to 20 minutes

I agree! The scenery would be pretty neat! You’d also be able to get a good aerial view of the entire park! Oh yeah, I’ve also heard some instances where the lap bar released at the top of the elevator and they had to shut the ride down. That’s never happened to me or anyone I know personally but I’d imagine how scary that would be. Just riding Cannibal enjoying yourself and POP GOES THE LAPBAR! Luckily those sensors caught it before they sent your older sister’s friend to the “drop zone.” Lagoon’s still ironing out their bugs in Cannibal so hopefully in a few years, it will run with little to no issues! :)

DestinysPowerOfStupidity I haven't had the lap bar pop up on me eather, but if it did, I would be crying, now that I think of it, it would be a pretty cool once in a life time experience to be stuck on your favorite ride! And I don't really blame the ride operators on Cannibal since it's only been open for 3 years now.

I got stuck on Dracula's Castle once, which was actually pretty fun. Roller coasters are very safe, so I don't think I'd be to worried when this stuff happens. I just be mad I waited in line just to get stuck.

Grace Hood He didn't say it to merely offend people, he said it as a joke since everyone in the car is from Utah (myself included). But I understand your stand point. Utah is a pretty great state but it does have some draw backs. Still it's not meant to be taken seriously, he was just trying to lighten the mood. ;)

Yeah, I do agree on that one. The one rider in front of me (red text) was kind of being a bit of a smart ass. It seemed like they were the ones that assumed they could do anything and just wanted to get off on the ride as soon as possible or just get the ride going again. Their questions are in fact stupid.

I love lagoon I went yesterday for the 4th of July and I went on cannibal like 7 times the the line was so short my biggest fear is getting stuck in the elevator

Oh I love Lagoon and Cannibal very much. One thing for sure, going on dead days is amazing. Most times I've ridden Cannibal in a day is I think 16 or 17 times? I don't know I lost track after the 13th time haha. But don't worry too much if you get stuck. More than likely you don't experience what's in the video. After seeing how Cannibal performs, when it does fail, it usually stalls for about 10 minutes if it gets stuck and they just continue to send you off. But this was during Lagoons Soft Opening (before Lagoon went daily and was only open weekends) so it was bound to fail like this. But you never know, it was a fun experience to get stuck! :)

lol. It's most likely impossible to get stuck upside-down in the Lagoon Roll, unless something on the ride vehicle malfunctions and creates enough friction between the wheel and the track to stop it. Only case I'd see is that it would valley in between the two rolls but not upside-down.

For my first time last year I was going to go on it they said it got stuck so I didn't get in line but this year I went on it and had a blast I should have been on it with my best friend then waiting a year

At least you got to ride it right!? This coaster is absolutely breath taking and I love every aspect of it (well except for how short the ride is haha). But still. It's better to ride it late than never! :)

Ouch! Really!? That's a bit surprising considering I went last Thursday and all the rides were operational.(with the exception of Samurai, Catapult, and the Terror Ride of course). I'm planning on going to Lagoon this Tuesday (June 27) so cross my fingers and hope all the rides are operating properly! :P

Oh trust me. It is a rare occurrence to actually get stuck in the elevator shaft or the brakes section before the Lagoon Roll. When it does happen though, it will either leave you pissed or just enjoy yourself. xD

Aweee! Don’t be scared! Cannibal is a really fun ride! Also keep in mind that this breakdown happened when Lagoon was still on their weekend only openings in 2017. So the ride was still fairly new and was prone to problems with their computers, causing it to breakdown. I’ll tell you this which will help; This year Cannibal hasn’t been acting up very much and the chances of this happening to you are very, VERY slim! It will occasionally stop and fail for maybe 15 or so minutes depending on how busy Lagoon is, but you will most likely never get evacuation off the ride unless something (or someone) REALLY MESSED UP. Cannibal will treat you well as well as the team running the ride. You’ll be fine! I can assure you that! 😁

The elevator is more scary then the rest of the ride to me cause it has to tilt u over from the thing that is taking u up but for me it’s more fun then scary so don’t worry u don’t have to be scared

Ferryman2652 Roller Coasters are pretty fun to go on in my opinion. While yes they do break down from time to time but that's just the nature of technology and electronics. Having one Coaster break down doesn't mean you shouldn't ride them at all! Give some a try. :) Plus the likelihood of you dying or getting injured on a roller coaster is pretty much the same as you getting eaten by a shark.

Ferryman2652 well, honestly you can't expect a roller coaster to run with no problems at all, every roller coaster breaks down once or twice a year, like when the wicked cart didn't go over the tower (or apex is what the wicked ride operators call it) and the ride operators had to reset the system. Plus I'm pretty sure the sensors will catch if a ride breaks down. 😊

Those drums are part of the theming Cannibal has. As you acend the tower in the darkness, the drums help build the suspense before you realize you're at the top and plummit down the 206ft, 116° Beyond Vertical Drop. :)

Oh that ride needed. A repair. I watch this ride on utube but i will never ride it ever my favorite is fire dragon and bombbora not wicked ever again it stop my breathing not good this ride would kill me so to keep lagoon not in trouble ever i stay away fromm cannibal

For rides to break down is fairly common. Keep in mind that this video was recorded while Lagoon was just opening up for the 2017 season so it was bound to have its technical flaws. I’d say just give Cannibal at least one chance and see how you like it. Out of all the roller coasters at the park Wicked and Cannibal are the two who need the most maintenance since they’re the ones with the most technical parts (Wicked because of its LSM Launch tower and Cannibal because of its custom in house parts and elevator lift mechanics). Overall I’d say at least give it one try. It won’t kill you. :)

The issue is that there are sensors on the ride vehicle so it Can communicate with the tower And they experienced some intruptions

Yes, upon doing research after I got home and talking to some of the employees working on the ride, it seems one of the sensors was acting up to the computer and configuring it to switch into “Safe Mode” which is a good thing! Unfortunately it seems as if it’s happening a lot since the ride has had I think a 8%-11% downtime from the beginning of 2018 to the end of 2019 seasons. Since Lagoon made this ride completely in house, my best guess would have to directly related to the software of the operations. Some employees have told me that one miss click of one of the operators buttons can completely switch the ride into the said safe mode, which isn’t ideal at al. Either Lagoon needs to fix the coding of the software for the ride and fix certain leniencies in how it reads the sensors or inputs, or they completely need to overhaul the software and sensors and completely replace it.

Haha! That's amazing! Must be cool (and annoying sometimes) to work at Lagoon! I still remember seeing the family members waiting at the exit wondering where the rest of their group was when Cannibal broke down. Very funny and quite interesting experience I'd say! :)

I like working there sometimes,The guests can be pretty rude and crazy. But I love it,When Cliffhanger breaks down people freak out because there might be people on it or whatever and really, I would love to be stuck on a ride, I do break checks in the morning on Wild Mouse and Spider, and sometimes they hurt when they stop but I love break checks. One of my favorite things at Lagoon is the amazing view of the sun set by Jet Star 2

That's amazing! I wish I could do break checks on rides every morning, that'd be awesome to do! Do people really freak out with Cliffhanger breaks down? I'm just surprised that it's in operating mode (even though it's only one row working). I've never seen people freak out when Cliffhanger breaks down, that's an odd one to me. I can definitely agree with you on the sunset on Jet Star 2. So beautiful but my favorite place to view it is on the Sky Wheel. Definitely a beautiful sight of the park and sun set.

I wont go on that ride, and people sometimes freak out, there was a time when a little kid maybe about 10 years old was freaking out and screaming and his mom was trying to calm him down but since he was so loud the other riders couldn't hear me when I told them it would be a minute.

Actually, there are plenty things wrong in Utah. No state is perfect by all means, but saying "NOTHING SUCKS" in Utah is a bit of a statement. While yes, there are quite a few things here that are pretty neat, there are somethings that absolutely suck here in Utah. For instance: When was the last time you were on the road driving on Bangerter Highway? That highway is the worst highway in Utah considering it's extremely confusing. Another example, real estate. House prices are going up in Utah and they're constantly rising, thus making it harder for people to find a place to live since every living quarter is rising in a stupid amount. Those are just two examples of why Utah "SUCKS". On the others side, however, Utah has plenty of amazing sights, and unique things. The national parks are a big one, there are no other places where you can find an "Arches National Park" or "The Great Salt Lake." As I stated earlier, every state is flawed and yes, Utah does suck in it's own way like every other state. One things for sure, it's a place we can call home.
