Goldfish contain thiaminase which destroys vitamin B so they are a bad feeder. This causes a vitamin imbalance in your fishes diet and leads to health issues. Just something to consider in the future.

My buddies father pulled in a six foot four sturgeon when I was in highschool. His reel clutch brake broke so he fought the line using his thumb on the reel.. He spent like 45 minutes wrestling that Dino in. Heavy as hell for me and my buddy to lift for a picture, my friends finger slipped into its vent and it sent us both back into the river with a single wiggle lmao.

Perhaps if insects can access that pit it can eventually be a self sufficient ecosystem. 300years forward and the Sturgeon will have evolved together with the eels and crawfish. Imagine them going up the stairs with their armors and their own arms and legs 😂😂

A living wall of mosses and small ferns would add a lot to the atmosphere of the eel pit, and would dampen the echoes of the water. It could possibly even help filter the water.

Baby sturge are not easy to handle, are they? The smaller they are, the harder they are to handle because of those spikey plates. As they get older those spikes aren't as spikey. Beautiful fish.

I love this cistern fish pond idea, altgough I would add some spray foam to the corners of the room and ceiling to limit that crazy reverb sound. Add a top end lighting system to mimic the outside lighting conditions and I'm not sure I would leave from down there very often.
