Squirrels was a favourite of mine. Another series seemingly not mentioned anywhere was 'The Great Western Musical Thunderbox' and was a compilation of folk songs and singers. Fred Wedlock was the main host, though there were acts like The Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra, White on Black, Isla St Clare as well. I think even The Wurzels made an appearance, too.. It was a lunchtime programme around 1975. I loved it, watched the repeats etc. I'd not long left school. Years later, I heard that Fred Wedlock had died a little while earlier. I wrote on the website and got a very nice reply from his widow. It was very touching.

What people really remember about old TV shows are the opening titles and theme music, the shows themselves can sometimes be a bit forgettable. Just about remember 'Lollipop...' being on, 'Doomwatch', with the giant rubber rats episode, Squirrels I remember being on...I remember a lot of shows in terms of 'stuff that was on the Telly'; I was usually out getting green knees and grazes while they were on and rarely actually watched them. I had just enough memory of 'the Famous Five' to find the Comic Strip Presents 'Five go Mad in Dorset' episode hilarious! "Ooh Timmy, you're so licky..." Congrats on the hideous wallpaper, the true representation of the nicotine stained 70s! Born in 65, I had a whale of a time! ✌️

I really liked Lucky Feller, couldn't believe it got axed at the time all my family loved it. Moonbase 3 was pretty awful, but it did spawn Blakes 7 some years later. Doomwatch was a really good show. Squirrels was one the ones I mentioned previously, thanks for including that one, it was very popular at the time some very funny situations in it. The Famous Five was on with children's programmes around tea time. It was pretty ropey, and the I remember hating the theme tune as it was a real 'earworm'. Absolutely loved Potty Time, it was just so innovative, Michael Bentine was brilliant in it. Indoor League was my absolute favourite, there was nothing like bunking off school in the 70s pretending to be sick so you could watch gripping pub games. All my friends talk about it the whole time. I think Frank Skinner and David Baddiel tried to revive it in the 90s but it didn't happen. Thanks very much for posting just a few more mentions 1. Rooms, a drama series on at lunchtime in the 70s with different stories each week about people renting rooms in a house 2. Marked Personal, a drama about the HR department of a large company on in the afternoons. 3. Out, a drama about a man released from prison seeking revenge 4. A Family At War, about different members of a family during WW2. 5. Rock Follies, strange show about a female pop group 6. Lillie, a period series from the late 70s about Lillie Langtry

That wallpaper behind the stills took me back. I'm trying to think which room in our house had it, now. It may have been a bedroom or possibly the bathroom. I don't remember now. 'The Famous Five', series was one of those shown occasionally on my ITV region, so wasn't followed as well as it might have been. As a youngster of the time, I didn't take much interest in it. I suspect I wasn't old enough, (in that I would have been tucked-up in bed before the time they were aired), to watch the majority of the sitcoms featured. So, don't remember them at all. Michael Bentine's Potty Time was one I do remember fairly well.

Interesting video and you almost stumped me for a duck (can't deny it's a euphemism but certainly not a smutty one) until you proffered 'Michael Bentine's Potty Time,' Stu. I was probably bedazzled by the lever-and-pulley contraptions and the comic vocal effects. In recent years I discovered a 'Twilight Zone' or 'Outer Limits' episode which might have been influential (possibly minus the intentionally comic effects, I don't recall) on the MBPT concept. Twilight Zone would stand to reason as it would seem rather twee for Outer Limits sensibilities. Twilight Zone was shamelessly twee (two Christmas editions, an Ed Wynn feature) on occasion. Now you mention it ... the hapless fellow in the bubble car rings a bell. Driving to Notre Dame cathedral, endlessly mired in unrequited admiration for Esmeralda. Hoho! Literally all I recall is 'hapless fellow in a bubble car.' That alone might have held my interest at the time but it's possibly filtered out of consciousness on grounds of endlessly mired sentimentality. A perspective which does render a lot of old television forgettable for me. Two main points of interest Pretty sure I never saw the 'Doomwatch' series but the feature film (1972) has enthralled me many times over the years. The fine actor Ian Bannen memorable in the leading role. You pulled the rabbit out of the hat with 'the Squirrels' - that specific scene: Aubrey Morris. Aubrey's unique talent for character acting would seem quite fitting for such mundane farce but to appreciate the full awesomeness of Aubrey you must catch his farcical character parachuted into anything approaching drama. He single-handedly elevated Kubrick's 'Clockwork Orange' and Robin Hardy's 'The Wicker Man' to a higher plane but I think his magnum opus was The Card Player in the 'Sweeney' episode 'Stoppo Driver' (1975). A light smattering of one-off appearances in television dramas throughout a very respectable portfolio - and of course quite a few whimsical film roles.

Newcomer to the channel, as someone born in 1970 I'm loving it, so many memories flooding back! OK, if we're talking about rare and forgotten shows, anyone remember 'Touch And Go' from 1978? Only six episodes made, a kids thriller-type show that I think was on the BBC. I loved this show as a kid yet it seems like nobody remembers it except me! 😊

Another great video. I recognise the names of some of these but I don't remember watching any back in the day. My daughter loves the Famous Five and might even prefer it over the later version which was set in the era of the books.

Michael Bentine's Potty Time is very fondly remembered by me & it was great to see it get a mention. Still waiting patiently for Screen Test to make an appearance, perhaps there's a video about 'forgotten' quiz shows in there somewhere?

Not heard of many of these but I do remember The Famous Five, with that ear worm of a theme tune. As I recall it was surprisingly well made for a kids show but I doubt if I could watch it now without thinking of that brilliant Comic Strip spoof 'Five go made in Dorset'. I bought the dvd of Moonbase 3 a few years ago and it was surprisingly entertaining even if incredibly dated. The dvd notes said it was a 'lost' show for years as the BBC had wiped the master tapes but in the 90s copies were found in the archives of a US TV station. As for Michael Bentines Potty Time, I remember the show as a toddler in the mid 70s and then it got a repeat showing in the mid 1980s when I was doing my O levels as I watched them when I should have been revising. No wonder my results weren't great back then and I ended up going to college to redo them.

I'm surprised Doom Watch is on the list, I thought it was pretty well known? I know of Moonbase 3, but I've never seen it. The Famous Five was a thing that existed but was far too dull for my sci-fi addled mind! Otherwise, not heard of the rest, although I'll have to check out the Robin Hood one, you know I love a bit of bad boy Darrow! 🤭

I only remember the Famous Five (I’ve got the DVD) and Potty Time, although I seem to remember my Uncle was a bigger fan of Potty Time than me. This Famous Five series was in collaboration with a German TV company - the actor playing Uncle Quentin was German and featured more heavily in the series than in the books.

I was perhaps a bit too young to remember watching any of these shows and may have been at school as a child having been born in 65 Watching these few clips how great were the theme tunes to these shows. But many great theme tunes to many many back in the day.

Bentines pottie time was one of the funniest programmes ever. Enjoyed doomwatch, which i think as been run on talking pictures. Indoor league with its indoor skittles and table football was classic tv.

I must be one of very few now who watched `Lollipop Loves Mr Mole` back in 1971. Sad that only two episodes remain. Now! does anyone remember "Cloppa Castle" For me, that was comedy genius! I even have the theme song which was by `Rainbow Cottage` on Polydor record label. `C.C` would be a worthy entry for another of Stuviews lists - in my hunble opinion!

Yes I remember Cloppa Castle! I remember some of the tune to it, one line I believe was " we live in harmony, at Cloppa Castle". If my 6 year old daughter's bedroom is a mess, I sometimes find myself saying "It's like Cloppa Castle in here" or "It's a Smyth's apocalypse in here" and one Scottish phrase I use as being Scottish, "It's like Anakers midden"
