Nice work. I work at Briggs & Stratton (27 years now) and this past week I was on a team that disassembled and changed the gear on thousands of these starters.

I did have a small chip on one of the teeth for the gear. Thanks Timothy for dropping in and sharing a comment, and be sure to have a great day!

With all the upgrades you should be set for awhile! I have an old Murray from the mid 90's that I keep in shape. I like the older units as they don't have as much plastic parts.

I agree and hoping to get quite a few more years out of the mower. Have a great weekend!

Hello, thank you for this video. A few questions, is the gear plastic or metallic? Is there also metallic? Which is more convenient?
@stuzman522 ай бұрын
As for this mower, the standard gear is made of plastic. Even after 25 years, the gear was still intact although it did have a little wear. I would guess that you could replace it with a metal gear provided that it has the same number of teeth, diameter, height, etc. I would just stick with whatever material the mower came with. Have a great day!

Took me 7 minutes to figure out why you sounded so familiar. You have the same accent and tone as Woody Harrelson. Thanks for the detailed breakdown.

Never heard that I sounded like Woody Harrelson. Now if only I had his amount of money! Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

Is there sopose to be continuity from the mounting bracket and the power terminal on any starter motor?
@SalientDebate10 ай бұрын
KZbin isn't the right placer for support, but no continuity unless your solenoid is engaged. It you measure from the starter's motor terminal to the starter casing or the engine block you should get just a few ohms of resistance. Either Zero or no reading would mean a failure in the armature. @@JaytonMafnas

I needed to know how to remove the clip and I don't have the tools so this was of no use for me.
@stuzman5210 ай бұрын
Like I showed with a description embedded in the video, you could always use a small screwdriver to remove the clip.
