Talk about a trip down memory lane. Found the hhh vs rock ladder match at summer slam 98 on dailymotion. What a gem. Haven’t watched wrestling in some time but this podcast gave me the bug to go back and watch some classics
@josephboza74485 жыл бұрын
Dwayne Johnson is a first ballot hall of famer. Vince and creative in these years mapped out the Rock correctly. To me, his Summerslam ladder match vs Triple H was the match of the year for 1998. I think his 1997 was basically Vince force feeding him down our throats kinda like Roman Reigns. It wasn't until Dwayne put aspects of himself into the Rock that fans realy started to appreciate him.
@maxray74894 жыл бұрын
Nah he wasn’t forced like reigns... wwe had competition and the writers actually had to do something...it was the greatest time to be alive

Great episode, and great run by the Rock. After this he almost got too popular and it hurt his character imo. For example, The promos became to slow and predictable bc everyone needed to be able to chant along. Watch his promo from break down 98 before the triple threat ladder match. Just raw pure gold lol.

Bruce is full of it when he says that it’s natural and healthy for the Kliq to be sabotaging Rock and other young talents. Contrast that to the stories people tell about Undertaker constantly looking out for people like Glenn Jacobs so he had people he could work with and make money with. At this point, Michaels and HHH didn’t care about the overall health of the company and having people to work with, they probably would have been happy running off Austin and Rock and losing the Monday Night War if it meant they were the only stars of the show.

i think the rock turning heel at ss 98 was terrible and typical of russo's writing of making the opponent of the heels the audience, rather than the faces. rock should have stayed face, got screwed in the semi finals, taker and mankind should have been in the final and undertaker should have sided with mcmahon with kane screwing mankind in the main event. undertaker and kane become the two main heels of the corporation, along with paul bearer being mr mcmahon's new close business associate. the wwf really undersold how much people really wanted to see mankind win the belt as a face and the main event at mania should have been mankind against undertaker, with mankind finally getting his due as champion, while stone cold at mania finally gets the thing he really wants; a match with mcmahon, and the rock faces kane for the number one contender for the belt at backlash, kane wins with rock getting screwed again, and then the rock goes the next year battling uphill to finally get the belt and a match at the next mania. that story actually makes sense and doesnt have all these ridiculous russo inconsistencies that involve the rock intercepting a nightstick, that apparently was on purpose, getting his ass kicked for 6 weeks prior, while it was all apparently not real within the confides of the story, since mcmahon was planning secretly along with the rock that the screw was in at survivor series. just typical moron shit from russo wanting nothing more than to dupe the fans than to actually write a story that makes sense and makes use of all the wrestlers involved within this story to the fullest, like mankind and kane. i dont think any superstar saw their value dip more in any era, than kane's did from 1998 to 1999.
