Loved this episode. I always tell people the Royal Rumble 98 is my advice on where to start for those wanting to get into the attitude era on the network. Side note, I really hope we get a Saint Valentines Day Massacre episode for February. One of my favorite PPVs of the attitude era for sure.

I come across an episode like this... ... where he tries everything to crawl up Shawn's ass, glorify him, and defend him against all questions or accusations, even though all evidence and opinions clearly point to the opposite. I mean, godamnit Bruce, we are 20 years later now. Yes, Shawn was one of the best WWE performers of all time - no doubt. I enjoyed watching him wrestle and talk shit when I was young. I just don't understand the why is there a need to still defend his obviously shitty character of the late nineties. Instead it could be so much more interesting to go into the details, why that might have been and what it might have done to the people and environment around him...

I'd much rather people who were teens in the 90s, such as myself, stand up to WWE revisionism and woke zoomer Meltzer smarks. HBK and Hart sucked and if they weren't so bland and out of date SCSA would have just been taken as a heel. The 83 weeks happens under them and it's not because I thought a boring dude in pink or a wannabe male stripper with ear rings like a chick was cool. But being generous all those guys are C level main eventers. I remember seeing The Rock bang Mankind in the head about 683 times with a steel chair and throw him into the electrical circuit boards. I remember seeing Vince eliminate Stone Cold to win the Rumble. I fell asleep in class the next morning, which was a Monday, and got in trouble.

In 1998? No, WCW wasn't shit yet. They were making big mistakes with their main events and the handling of the world championship but the mid-card and lower card stuff was excellent at times. The WCW Cruiserweight division (Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Juventud, Malenko, etc) was white hot, first-class matches every week. The TV title was contested between Booker T, Benoit and Finlay, some great matches. WCW still had the better talent, they just didn't have the storylines or the correct booking for the WCW world title.

I always agree with Bruce when it comes to “FDM”, but there’s no chance that the Kane explosion spot was planned without pyro. You can see him react to the fact that nothing happens. You can also hear people in the crowd laugh...they weren’t going to risk him looking stupid like that when they’re trying to make him look like an evil, unstoppable monster. This was a great way to bring in the attitude era. Shawn could get away with anything. He is and was Vince's golden goose going back to when he retired Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1997 and made Vince happy. Not trying to take up for him but honestly most people being surrounded by a crowd of hostile people would probably be hesitate to remain out there. Chris Terry I’m A HBK fan since The AWA Days, 95 the year in general sucked, the worst year in pro wrestling in both WWF, and WCW, just 95, started with HBK, and BullDog, and ended that way, that was great imo, Shawn is the Goat, that’s a Fact, nobody can touch HBK in the Ring, and he was having the Greatest Matches Of his Life in 95, too bad that year sucked, just 95 is one of my favorite Rumbles, cause of the way it was booked, the Rumble Match, not the whole PPV, 2001 Rumble is Right there too, 2009, THATS just cause I’m a Randy ORTON Fan, And I’m talking The Randy ORTON. That kissed Steph, right in front of Triple H, Today’s Randy needs too turn Heel ASAP, cause being a Face is very Boring, Heels will always draw the Money, but in today’s WWE, they can’t Make New Stars, Example Roman Reigns, 5yrs still not over with the Fans, He COULDNT get over with the Rock next to him at the rumble he won last time in Philly, I was there, and ILL be there next week, When DOLPH ZIGGLER wins the Royal Rumble, THATS been Said by ppl that work in WWE, either ZIGGLER, or Daniel BYRAN, alright gotta get ready to watch the EAGELS beat The Vikings, and go to the SUPERBOWL. #heel4life

TheDieHardWWEAddict LOL, I’m not sayin dude is a Genius, he is far from it, but It’s a Fact, He Wrote Raw him, And Vince McMahon, Ed Ferreira later on, but Russo ideas is what got Raw, over Nitro, cause when Bruce, and CORNETTE were writing, we had TL Hopper, Max Moon, Duke The Dumpster, Ron Simmons looking like a Gladiator, That was Bruce’s idea, he admits too it, and still stands by it, and likes it.
