It's funny to hear someone say that, as I got into wrestling in the middle of '88, but didn't really hit full steam until after WM5 in 89, and Bret and the Rockers were the reasons why. But that said, I was (and am) a fan of Ed Leslie and the Barber gimmick. I don't think it's so much arrogance or smart fan, he just doesn't really care for or understand the popularity of Brutus Beefcake, and that's fine. There are popular wrestlers I never cared for, too.

Conrad has his timeline way off here when he's asking about Bret being in the Beefcake spot, calling him "your next champ after Warrior". Bret had JUST turned face for a year prior to that show, and was still "the Hart Foundation guy" in summer 89. And he wasn't the next guy in line for a main event push after Warrior - he got his first world title push three years later - after Warrior, Slaughter, Hogan, Undertaker, Flair, and Savage all had runs. There's no way Bret was in position to be accepted as Hogan's PPV main event partner in summer 1989. Bruce is 100% right on that one.

@1:04:00 Brutus The Barber Beefcake takes a lot of flak from Conrad and I'm telling you (as a kid who watched this in the 1980's as it happened) that Brutus was HUGELY popular. Brutus was in the class of wrestlers who were ABOVE the intercontinental title but just below the world title. He was as popular as Jake The Snake Roberts or Randy Macho Man Savage. That's the bottom line and anything else is just revisionist history by someone who didn't watch wrestling back then like I did. No wrestler takes more heat for his success than Ed Leslie but in the 1980's he was one of the TOP 5 guys (face or heel) in the entire company. Period.

@@booty121212 Owen was a bit more athletic in the ring, but he was a little smaller and had a bit of a squeaky voice that wouldn't have gotten over in top. Bret in 97 was at his best, but he was finally able to be a heel, which brings out the best in many wrestlers personalities. Bret as a babyfaces did have his own gimmick and was different and combined with his talent is why he got over. He was the only guy in 92 that didn't scream into the mic which may be boring but it was different. Wrestling is all about separating yourself from the test and Bret did. SCSA is the man, but he was around all those years hulk and Bret were on top, amd SCSA wasn't a success or over because he only works in the attitude era, which only happened because of ECW. There was a whole long big cover article in WWF magazine explaining why Brutus felt he was screwed and was now out for revenge.

1:24:00 The reason Curt grew his hair long, blond and curly in the first place was to give Brutus something good to chop off when the time came. Roman is over, hes a big seller. But hes not effective, to me he is waaay to stiff and limited in his moveset, his finisher( that word is a joke to me because of people ''taking'' them and not going down after one ), hell he would be better off with some sort of Somoan Slam to be honest in my opinion instead of a freaking superman punch. At least Big Show gained his because of a gimick match with Floyd Mayweather, which was marketed great. Romans thing is, he cannot be like Cena, he doesnt have the charisma Cena has to stay pure babyface non-stop. He will need a heel turn and probably a lengthy run as a heel to actually help him ''develop'', if he doesnt develop personality it doesnt matter who he steamrolls or whether the undertaker gave him a win to try and put him over the top in his ''yard dog '' gimick. If he cant develop a stronger personality and not be just a smirking islander, hes not going to be long lasting in memory.

Huge WWE fan back in the day. Hogan was god in my mind. However, My Aunt and Grandma owned and ran a beauty shop,my current step mother at the time had a barber shop and my uncle owned a barber shop, had another uncle with a barbershop in the front and gambling in the back so yeah right behind Hogan was Brutus!!! None of them were fans but it still gave them interest and put him just that much more over in my mind as a kid.Def remember the sparkly B he'd spray on their bellies with hair color or just a straight up buzz job.

As someone who has taken pharmacy grade HGH, straight from Walgreens it is absolutely amazing. The problem is most of the time when you buy it, it's from China and it's either really weak or just fake all together. And it takes you months to realize that it's not real. And it's really expensive so you just lost thousands of dollars on fake shit. Whereas testosterone is rarely fake and only 50-80 bucks a bottle on average and you'll know in a couple weeks of its no good. But one of my best friends got some hgh from a family member who had HIV so it was prescribed him. He kept half of it and sold the other half. My buddys uncle would go with him to the pharmacy and he would open up the box and hand half of it over to my buddy and then keep the other half for himself. So you knew it was good. I did it for about 6 months and I burned fat and build muscle at the same time while not eating horrible, but not eating anywhere near as good as I did when I did bodybuilding. To build as much muscle and lose as much fat as I did at the same time, is unheard of even with a ton of other steroids. My skin was cleaner my hair was more full. I had energy and a sex drive that you wouldn't believe. That is the closest thing to a miracle drug that I've ever taken in my life. Keep in mind I still worked out six days a week and ate six meals a day and worked really hard, it's just that the results were so much better

Brutus Beefcake was being groomed to become the wwf intercontinental championship when it meant something. If Beefcake wouldn't have gotten hurt he would have been super over. Beefcake was a tag team champion and beat Mr perfect for the first time.

Conrad is being pretty arrogant here. Brutus was OVER. ESPECIALLY in 1989-1990. The Bret Hart suggestion in 1989 was absolutely ridiculous. Bret himself would tell you he wasn't ready for that spotlight in 1989, as he was still flip flopping between singles matches, losing to Mr. Perfect, and tagging when seemingly Vince needed a heel tag team to beat a credible face team (Hart Foundation losing in SummerSlam 88 and 89 after Bret spent the summer working singles).

I was 9 years old around the time of Wrestlemania 1. Even in my grammar school there was a rumor that Brutus and Hulk Hogan were brothers

I liked Brutus the Barber Beefecake, and I was really excited for him to get the IC title shot, cuz i figured he would win. But after the boating accident stopped all that, i was sort of disappointed.

I feel like Brutus was only ever over with kids and, to his credit, that was the best demo to be over with in the 80s.

I don’t remember Beefcake ever being the number two or three Baby face in the WWE. Now three guys in Hogan, Beefcake and Zeus that aren’t good wrestlers and one in Macho Man had to somehow make up for three guys. Crazy!

We can say what we want about this dude all day long but you know something? He was pretty rad growing up & watching the WWF back then. We never saw botches just this larger than life dude and even his wrestling may not have been spot on but you couldn't tell me that to some of us kids back then.

Beefcake was very popular back then. Him and Hogan were such a cool tag team. Conrad comes across like such an arrogant smark sometimes.
