Lanny is the first wrestler I actually had conversations with in the early 2000s online. Such a nice guy. Huge loss for the wrestling industry!

I sent Lanny a message back in 2012 because something he said in an interview really resonated with me. I thought it was really cool that he took the time to message me back and share a few kind words. May he Rest In Peace.

Lanny's victory over Hulk Hogan was actually via countout and not disqualification. Lanny was my best friend and we talked about that match often as it was one of his proudest moments of his career. We analyzed the match and he was so proud that it was a countout as a countout meant that Hulk couldn't make it back into the ring (although Mr. Perfect ensured that). If it had been a DQ, it wouldn't have been so much a win as it would have just been Hulk doing something to cause his own loss. Maybe a small inaccuracy but one that was very important to Lanny. There were several inaccuracies in this podcast but, all in all, I was very happy that Bruce & Conrad dedicated a show to Lanny's career as Lanny certainly deserved it.

"His name was known all too well, A wrestler with poems, his stories to tell, With moves so quick, his foes were stunned, And rhymes that were profound, he would leave the fans booing as one. In the WWF, he was known as The Genius, Having a sharp wit, ballads were a convenience From Hulk Hogan to Jay Lethal, he had a memorable career For the audience knew they were in for a show, year after year. A smile that lit up the darkest night, His spirit could never be tamed, It was fun being with Curt Hennig, The Beverly Brothers were a royal pain. Living life to the fullest, he was never one to conform Stepping into the ring, he loved to perform Lanny Poffo was always the man with a plan, Rest in peace to the brother of The Macho Man."

Lanny said Randy used to beat himself up for years after the legends Battle Royal thing because he "didn't fight hard enough for his father" that he did ask for him to be in but Patterson said no or we will consider it. Then Randy told his Dad don't worry he would get him in then they didn't bother with him and Randy had to tell his dad who was all looking forward to seeing all his old friends, the bad news he felt like a weak, failure as a son & was so angry afterwards at himself but he blamed Pat Patterson for not going with him & didn't like him ever since. But still was angry at himself for not pushing for him more.

I never heard the name Angelo Poffo until he was brought into WCW for an angle with Randy. I know the HoF is sort of a joke considering some who have been inducted, but getting in for being related to someone actually deserving makes it even more of a mockery.

@@palaceofwisdom9448 i never heard of it until i seen that interview with Lanny. One of the rare occasions i agree with the WWE or McMahon over the wrestler. Why should he be in just because it was Randy Savages father? The fans wouldn't care, they wanted to see Randy Savage in because he was a former champion and huge name in the WWF. Just because ot meant something to him doesn't mean it means the same to everybody else. Having "The Poffos" in rather than The Macho Man would have been ridiculous. So Bret "The Hitman" Hart shouldn't go in alone but should have been as "The Hart's" with his father amd owen & their brothers all together or Dusty Rhodes shouldn't have went in alone but as "The Rhodes" with Goldust & Cody. It was a silly idea

Unfortunately, this black dude who was sitting behind me and was much bigger and older than than I was decided he wanted the frisbee more. He threatened me for it. When I wouldn't give in, he started punching me in the back of the head and then ripped it out of my hands and ran off. He never returned to his seat. Pritchard tells this story about Macho wanting to be behind a commentary desk and nothing else. I don't buy it. I'm sure Randy said it in 1991 when he and Liz wanted to slow down. I'm sure he said it again when Liz left him because Liz couldn't handle the 200 show 300 day year schedule. When Macho lost the title after another exhausting year at 39 off the juice I'm certain he asked for the commentator gig thinking it would be a part time wrestler gig where he could still have feuds like he had with Crush in 94. Savage still had gas in the tank and deserved to have a lighter Hogan-like schedule after all the years Savage busted his ass for the company. I'm certain Savage asked to be in a program with Shawn, similar to the one the much older Lawler and Backlund worked off and on for two years with The Hitman. Vince has done a million stupid things over the years. But honestly sitting Savage out as a commentator at age 40 has got to be up there with the stupidest ideas McMahon has ever come up with. Major mistake. Savage took slim jim with him and gave DDP the cred Shawn could have used when he was drawing nothing in 95 and 96. Vince worked those 80s guys way too hard with way too many dates and sadly many of them are gone now because of it.
