I suffered unbelievably from hot flashes for 15 years, getting them minutes, apart day and night, at age 61 I’m finally getting fewer. The only thing that helps me, other than dressing very lightly in breathable fabrics, is chilled or ice water. I keep 16 oz. glass bottles of it in the fridge, and when I feel a hot flash starting, I drink at least half as fast as I can. It re-sets my overblown thermostat. I recommend this to other women suffering from these, it really works! (BTW I use a straw because the cold water would hurt my teeth). Also, doctors have alternative medicines for this to HRT now, it’s good to ask.

i put ice cubes in a bag in the fridge you could use a ziplock bag with loccitane verbena shower gel and i use either liz earle muslin cloths or tanning wipes that have been rinsed through untill water runs clear that does for me try it its so refreshing in the hot weather .

You are right, natural fabrics are a must for summer, I’m a linen fan, don’t mind the creases as it keeps you so cool. Light airy clothes are best.

10% cotton always /broderie anglaise has tiny holes in the material the cool air breezes through the material it is perfect for summer/hot weather i have a few off the shoulder /bardot tops from M&S these are perfect for me .

I hate linen because of the creases & because I hate ironing. So linen is a no no for me!

I love the rayon/viscose/lyocell family of fabrics, especially for my hot climate. Also, I can’t always find what I want in silk, like trousers other than black. Viscose helps fill the gaps, there is more variety than in silk. I don’t wear any synthetics, I can’t stand them.

I like viscose too and think it creases less than silk and it’s easier to wash 👍

I love linen, too. I just do my best ironing, then forget about the wrinkling. I tried a no-iron linen shirt last year, I like it very much, but I think the no-iron finish does reduce the coolness and breathability somewhat. It’s still very wearable on hot days, and tends to be the linen shirt that is ready-to-go.

Hi Hunny, a suggestion for washing delicate fabrics, for years I have used a product called Woolite which takes care of the fibres and can be used in the washing machine or by hand xx

Really helpful and informative video Maria. I had the worst night sweats and hot flushes. I agree about wearing the right fabrics to keep you as cool as possible. I used a chillow at night as the heat at the back of my head was unbearable. I used to keep a fan on my desk at work and keep as hydrated as possible. I had acupuncture for the hot flushes which was really effective. 😘

I absolutely love polyester. It feels cool against my skin in the hot & humid tropical climate we live in. I also love chiffon & cotton/polyester blends. Never linen! I hate ironing.

I didn’t go through menopause until I was 59 years old. I had had a Mirena IUD for the past fifteen years prior to menopause and it had masked many of the symptoms so I didn’t have any peri menopause symptoms. Once in menopause I went on vagi fem low insertable tablets which helped with dry vagina etc and hormones. Love I’ve been really lucky and have been able to enjoy sex with hubby. I prefer natural fibres for all my clothing.
