The ancient Chinese used to go to the pine forests in the mountains just to smell the fragrance of the pines needles. It is supposed to be good for respiratory ailments.

Mr. Chan, one of these days you should do a proper tutorial with the superbly beautiful trees that you have, watched your video on bonsai empire and alot of them seem to underestimate your skills, and me having read bonsai masterclass there are no shortage of fine specimens you have made, though of obviously you absolutely don't need to prove yourself, it just irritates me how they blather about you and would be nice to see you show them the amazing stuff you have

I am not bothered in the least about brickbats or bouquets - I just focus on my thing and my style. As you say - I don't have to prove anything.The proof of the pudding is in the eating. The number of subcribers on my KZbin channel speaks for itself !!! Not to mention our Nursery - it is UNIQUE !! Jealousy is not a nice thing but sadly there is a lot of it about.

@@peterchan3100 i completely agree with all that you've said right sir, kudos to your principles, come to think of it I suppose there is a sense of insecurity in the need to show something, and it is really nice to know that you are a very well established self, one day I will visit your nursery, the only one who/that seems to have a warm welcoming atmosphere as opposed to others I have seen, and a familial teacher student relationship you have with the team is very heartwarming thing to watch. Thanks very much for all the good you've done, I hope I can make something similar here in indonesia, though of course in the nature of a guru and a student, I'll try to better you sir...😆(apologies for the long and perhaps impertinent cacophony)

Guys, I really mean this: you need to make long form videos just following Peter around for 3-4 hours out of a workday and run an ad every 15 minutes. He doesn't even need to narrate the whole time, people *will* watch. Your compression and production time will skyrocket, but so will your viewership, Also, stream your bonsai workshops and evening wiring/pruning/shaping sessions, here or on Twitch. I bet you'll make a killing. Mail me one dope tree that will survive with love in AZ if it works out.

I would shorten the dead branch and just made a short thick jin, and pulled the top a bit closer together in order to make the bend a tad sharper.

Did you hear about the British Bonsai Academy Awards Night? It was held at Pinewood Studios, had a minimalist theme and all the gLiterati was there, in their best style. The gin flowed freely throughout, word down the wire was that there was a lot of pot too.

You love the Japanese Maple and also the Literati style of Bonsai... I have a solution. Don't try to put the two together, enjoy both for their strengths. I like fast cars and gardening. Trying to mash them together would be absurd. So, when will we see a Herons Bonsai branded potato peeler, sorry, bark removal tool, for sale? 😂

As the age of some trees was mentioned (the young instant bonsai, etc.) I am wondering at what point in the life of a tree (or raw material) might one determine what style will suite that material. I mean, could one start from seed thinking 'Oh, this one I'll make formal upright' or is it more typical to let a tree grow (in wild or on nursery) for a time and then discover it and consider what styles are possible? Sometimes I find a tree and it's already quite tall with few low branches and I think whether I can make it bud lower down to fit a certain style, or if maybe it's just not suited to bonsai but maybe could be a garden tree or topiary or just an interesting container tree in it's own way.

No you make do with what you've got at the time. Starting from a seedling would take too long unless of course you have years and years of time on your hands !!

what about to cut the trunk in exactly the middle? (exactly where it goes from straight up to a left-side bend) at 16:04 (create new roots there and make the overall height way shorter) to me the straight very long trunk looks a bit empty.

Long naked trunk are typical of the literaty aesthetic. If you don’t like the style fine, but the pine looks good as it is.

@@pansepot1490 you are right. at the end of the video I did like it more. (but also many literati have no height at all they grow out of the pot and cascade downwards. I thought more of that style) personal preferemce.

All literati bonsai have long thin trunks, literati is a very much less is more approach hence the bare empty long trunks, maybe your confusing with cascade or semi cascade style !

People do not understand the idea of building capital through years of purposeful service. Things worth anything, takes time to develop from raw materials. There is no inherent value in raw and uncultivated materials.

For anybody that freely gives up there time to share their knowledge and help inspire others on utube has balls, and I can only take my hat off to them as do many others. I bet you are subscribed and will continue to watch more of his videos in future 😋
