Hi Erin! So glad you opened the video with that! I have been a little frustrated with the constant pressure to “buy the look” but have started doing exactly what you said. I enjoy taking videos like yours as inspiration for outfits I like and have used them as a guide when shopping for items within my own budget. I have found Frame jeans, Hudson, Paige, Rag and Bone, etc. at Marshall’s and even Ross! Sure, you have to be patient. These things come up few and far between. But I already have an outfit idea in mind and when I score a find at these discount prices, it’s all the better! I’m not overspending and can still dress stylishly. I think you are accomplishing your mission, Erin!

I can’t afford the pricey one you own but found a similar option at Kohl’s. I’m excited to wear it this winter season. I actually own these boots and love them. I just started your Style Made Simple book and I never expected that it would start off bringing tears to my eyes! I know all too well that moment when your knees literally buckle. Mine have twice. I also know tough times,even though I came from a rather affluent background (in a way that makes it worse). And I know what it’s like to change dramatically- from a size zero athlete to someone chronically and seriously ill. Seemingly overnight I turned into a size 6, sometimes pushing an 8. Then age! Mentally I’m still that 30-something, but for some crazy reason my drivers license says I just turned 60! 😱 I can’t wait to dive into your workbook, but first wanted to reach out to you and let you know you touched me. I feel like I almost know you! I also feel like I know my style pretty well and my friends come to me for advice and call me their “stylish” friend, but I keep having this nagging feeling that I can do better. Erin...I do not feel like you need to clarify your mission. You have been extremely helpful in making looks out of what we already have. The screenshot suggestion has been key for me. So many times, we open the closet door and wonder what to wear!!! I now have printed photos of looks I liked that I can copy. The other suggestion that really helped was getting a small bar closet from Bed Bath and Beyond. Best $20 spent ever because you can make your outfits on the bar including the shoes and you are ready for the week. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Idea for a video...go to someone’s house and show them how to style what they already have. Since I live in Colorado, I volunteer my closets !!!

Ohh and I recently found a really nice black, puffy sleeves, 80% cashmere sweater in a thrift store for 6€ (7$)! How amazing is that! I was watching your videos and really liked how you were styling one which was from a store that sponsored the video, but personally I never felt like you were pushing me to buy it. I found one from a different source that I can afford and "test out" before committing to that style, because I usually don't wear things like that. And now I discovered, that it goes with everything! Thank you for that tip! Thanks for reiterating the idea to use what you already have out of your closet, Erin; I'm probably far from being alone in having neither the budget nor desire to spend a lot of money on clothes, and when I do, it's almost always from carefully selected thrift store finds. I'm totally loving the browns/neutrals looks you've been doing lately, and you've given me some fresh new ideas on how to style my jeans, in particular, with the tan booties I bought last year. Hope Telluride gets a good amount of snow with this upcoming holiday storm; I don't ski, but I know people are excited that Purgatory is opening this week to kick off ski season :).

I'm with you! I can't stand a sloppy, saggy turtleneck. Every couple of years Zara comes out with a stand collar mock-neck and they have one this year. It's terrific - nice quality, lightweight (great for layering), washes well and is so affordable. Love the booties in the video. They remind me of my Marc Fisher Chelsea boots that I collect in every color (and snake & leopard print, too). You created some super looks! Thanks!

Faux Fur = for the Win! I'm in So. Calif. and I have ankle booties in every color as they're perfect for our climate. I got a pair in taupe this fall and I love them! Along with the color you modeled in this video, they are both such versatile shades especially for the daytime and casual look. Btw- I am Loving your outfit with jeans and the faux fur coat--- Hot!

Love, love, love the dress w/booties! Living in a cold climate having boots besides tall ones is great. I work in an office so dresses are my uniform because I sit over 8 hrs & pants cut over time. While leggings seem to be the item of choice for my 20 something counterparts I keep them for weekends or under dresses when we have a polar vortex! Maybe you could do a “Do’s & Don’ts” w/leggings?
