Anyone that saw this tour in 1996 will tell you it was one of the greatest concerts they ever saw.

I was astonished to hear this, never hearing them live, and having grown up on the album. For a long time at the beginning the sound was so spot on, I was like, "Are they just playing a backing tape? Is he just lip syncing?" But we can see later that it's actually just a perfect performance, and that happens sometimes.

Unfortunately, at the time, Styx was considered a shrewdly calculated, commercial "rip off" of Journey, just as, ironically, Foreigner would be accused of aping Styx. The Hollywood food chain is voracious. Critics never forgave Styx because they couldn't stand Journey and snubbed Neal Shon's band all the way to Neal's going to the bank and to HIS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION SPEECH A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. We true Journey, Styx, and Foreigner fans have never forgotten their veritable pop music genius nor their brilliant Music Hall performances made accessible to arenas, stadiums and, in some cases, entire city blocks.

I went to the MGM Grand Las Vegas NV Show I was the first one at the entry gate and was lucky enough to meet Dennis DE Young as he was leaving sound check and paid my condolences to John Pinazzo yet this was just a few weeks after he passed away but Dennis was very kind I shook his hand he asked if I was from Illinois and I told him born in Alton lived in Decatur IL we ended up chatting about our home towns and told Jim this was my first Styx show he told me that sail away was dedicated to me then we went our separate ways him to dinner me to my seat the best part was meeting Dennis before the show

His music has always spoken to me, his melodies are absolutely unreal, his lyrics second to none and his delivery is flawless. Im not knocking Tommy, JY, Chuck and Todd but DDY is Styx. The timeless music of our generation.

Oh, man, this is fantastic. They are all so talented, but what the hell are they doing without Dennis DeYoung? I had to grow up a lot to really appreciate him, but DDY is the real thing in an industry full of AutoTuned wannabe-singers who can't entertain a full stadium. Tommy and JY write and sing great songs too, but Dennis had the artistic vision, the instantly-recognizable voice, and the charisma to pull off his non-conformist "square" persona. He was what made them different from the other supergroups of the 70s. Sure, he had bad ideas as well as good -- but that's just what happens when you have a lot of ideas! I guess as long as the three singer/songwriters are alive, there's always a chance for a classic Styx reunion, but I don't think that's gonna happen.
@heythereitsRBK26 жыл бұрын
I think in the end, his ego was what got him kicked out of the band. He didn't want to implement other people's ideas in fear that it would hinder his vision for the band, so Shaw and J Young wanted him out.
@VintageDefectors695 жыл бұрын
I honestly love Gowan with Styx and also Dennis's solo band is amazing. Specifically those guitarists are having at least a 10th of the fun the drummer of Iron Maiden has (so infinitely more than I could ever have in a lifetime collectively)

I think you are absolutely right! They were and are my favorites! I saw them several times, even had a couple of personal incidents! Love DDY and TS, need JY to finish the sound. I hate that they are not together! My son's favorite band too!
@matthewpalm47564 жыл бұрын
@@heythereitsRBK2 Well, Dennis explained in an interview that he got a nerve damaged as complication to a disorder, causing sensitivity of light. Shaw needed the money income and wanted to tour for the release of their 1999 album, but when he found Dennis couldn't tour due to this light sensitivity they removed him instead of waiting for him to heal up.
