I have been trying this and the comment about the dashed cross in the HSI has had me scratching my head. Your comment that it doesn't work that way now has helped my sanity!! Now I just need to do this mission without crashing.

I tried DCS again a couple of weeks ago to try learning the Flanker as my first jet, and I wondered why this mission seemed harder than my past attempts. Thank you for making this, I'll try it again soon with hopeful success.

Wow here I am 3 years later still trying to land on this runway without those airfield runway lights. That might just help me finally land this aircraft for the first time :) thanks for the video, wish I had seen this years ago when you posted.

I've tried and landed this mission literally blind but most of them resulted in some damage to the gear, but I did get some nice ones in. I opted to raise my gamma so I could see the runway but this just leveled up my DCS gameplay big time. Many thanks! So much more fun to interact with ATC

OMG...!! This Dude Again...!!🙈 I swear Mayen..!! You have a real "No Nonsense" approach...!! But it is undeniably the "absolute truth" in terms of getting the fundamentals in DCS...!! I'm starting from ground zero...!! "Flaming Cliff's 3..!!" You have the best tutorials for STT, TWS or just for VSD in general for F-15 I've come across, The most comprehensive..!! The Corner Speed, Dead Stick, F-15C AAR... Now This...!! This one..!! I cannot even begin to overemphasize the level of appreciation here..!! I've been trying flash lights, I stayed out there hovering until the gas was empty once...!! All the while telling myself, I cannot possibly suck this bad...!! I successfully landed the Mig-29 in the Inclement Weather in Instant Action Mission: "Mig-29 Final Approach...!! So "No..!!" It was the lack of a "Prescription Windshield in my Cockpit...!!" 🤓I wasted a lot of this weekend attempting this mission..!! I believe the "Tail Chasing" will now cease...!!!🦮..🧐 My OCD would not let me move on to weapons until I put this mission in the rear view mirror...!! Thanx...!!🙌 Phuqing Ayyyyeee....!!!! 💪..✊..✈..🐱🏍..😎

:) Well...that was certainly an exuberant response! Thank you for letting me know how helpful you find these. It makes the effort put into them worthwhile. Speaking of the MiG-29 "Dirty Weather" landing, here's a video I made for someone with that mission ratched up a bit--max crosswind, minimum ceiling, etc: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKrLg31oeqp3jtU . It's unlisted because its purpose, at the time, was not to showcase that mission. Enjoy those FC3 aircraft. The Su-27 remains my favorite.

Nice landing! Great tip on contacting the tower to have them turn on lights!
@airbornestuff3 жыл бұрын
+1. You are supposed to call the tower for landing and thus get the runway lights on

Awesome and good point about the landing lights as well :)
@Flankertrainingcom5 жыл бұрын
kontoname, thank you. They work especially well, if the crosswind is from the right. They still work, though illuminate not quite as far down the margin, if the crosswind is from the left. In both cases, however, they let you judge your height above the runway quite well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipzdk62Hg6eVgc0 . Jump to the last 3 minutes or so

Haha. Nice. It took me soo many tries until I managed to land it. Was my second night playing DCS. And now you tell me I can turn on the runway lights? Would have made it 1000 times easier. I can hardly count the times I touched down a couple of meters left or right of the runway...

Hawking Eta, yes, no runway lights does tend to ratchet up the level of difficulty. :)

I still don't understand the whole shpiel about the HSI showing the replacement for ILS. I can't believe this guys can't even do proper QA regression testing with the whole base landing.

Good evening, I am having great difficulty with the night navigation flight that ends in the strafing mission. There is a gate that the instructor advises is lower than the previous gates, I end up crashing into what I think is a hill/mountain before I ever see the gate. Anyone else have this issue or am I just a super noob? If so I'm cool with that.

Jesus christ I've been trying to land this thing for 2 hours, 3 attempts and no wonder I was going insane with the runaway lights off by default!!! How do I request them to turn them on???

I got this weird bug that the landing lights shine right into the cockpit and blind you. How did you fix that?
@Flankertrainingcom5 жыл бұрын
That's an odd one. In the Su-27? Never has it happen, so there's been nothing to fix. Have you tried a repair?

Does it work on carrier landing ?
@Flankertrainingcom5 жыл бұрын
RTyfgv, not sure what you’re asking. Carriers should be heading into the wind so crosswinds aren’t an issue.

RTyfgv , if you see them at all, then they’re turned on. Lighting is a major issue in the sim now.

This tutorial (not your video; I'm talking about what I actually experienced in DCS) was absolute garbage. For start, the glide slope thing didn't work, at all (which you mention, thank you for clearing up that they just forgot to implement a feature they explicitly say works and that you should use), resulting in me eventually finding this video. But then the lights on the runway never actually turned on until after I had already made touchdown. I had to skirt along the ground with the landing gear lights on to see when the runway starts to see when I could land. Then as soon as my wheels touched the ground, they say "oh wait we should probably turn on the landing lights". Like, they didn't have to implement this landing tutorial. They could just say "go read the manual". But when they DO have a tutorial in the game, it better damn well work, and the features they tell you to use should also work. Edit: I just watched through the beginning of your video again and realized you explained this... In my immense frustration I skipped over the text in the beginning.
