Yep, and even much more powerful cards (up to a 3070ti) have 8GB of VRAM. In my (unpopular) opinion, it's still more than sufficient to run games without them having to look like complete trash. The whole "8GB isn't enough" controversy is just complete BS to me and honestly feels like the people saying it are just spreading FUD. I personally have a 3060ti and even Cyberpunk at high settings 1080p native/1440p with DLSS Quality doesn't even use more than like 5.5-6GB. It's literally just 3 severely unoptimized games that became the "cause for concern". However, seeing as 8GB cards are *still* being launched (RX 7600, 4060, & 4060ti - albeit with a 16GB model on the horizon). I'd say people need to understand that game devs will have little choice but to optimize their games so that 8GB cards will be able to play them, at least at "decent" settings. Otherwise people will more than likely just not buy them, since the majority of PC players are going to be using those cards (or previous gen cards like the 6600/6600 XT/6650 XT or 3060ti/3070/3070ti). Upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR should also help out quite a bit too, although having to rely on those should be optional, not mandatory to play a game at 1080p. The 6700 XT (or even 6700) both offer more VRAM, but may be outside of some people's budget or an outright downgrade in rasterization performance compared to the 3070/3070ti. Either way, Nvidia's continued assertion on offering less VRAM for the money has me wanting to switch to AMD if/when they finally release RDNA 3 successors to the 6700/6700 XT/6800/6800 XT

I have a 580 8gb and i only play games from 2000 to 2019. Tbh, this graphics card do it's job very well, but when it comes to more intensive games (moden games), you'll prob have to lower the graphics and resolution.

Not all the games play that good even at 2019... Also some even very old games that were playable got unplayable for me after many updates and total graphics overhaul... Squad for example runs like a damn pile of crap on the new maps with water. Also I'm at 1080P and like 95% of games I can't stand FSR it makes everything look like vaseline and just isn't any good for 1080P, it works pretty good is like for a 4K TV to play from far away. I'm hopping to upgrade GPU and monitor to 1440P but sadly this gen there's still currently not a single good decently priced GPU cause it needs good performance, at least 12GB of ram and god damn PCIe 16x cause Im on PCIe 3.0. The current only cheapest option is a used RTX3060 12GB but it severely lacks performance specially for 1440P and much worse soon with most games finally moving to UE5 and any other game engine truly updated for next gen.

I got an RX 5500 XT 8GB for a little less than $100, and it is just an incredible card for the price I got it for. If you're looking for a used 1060 or 580 you might also want to look for the 5500xt.

With the RX 580, memory can be easily tuned with a bios mod. Providing better 1% lows. And with it you can use the Nimez Drivers, bringing modern dx11 optimizations and resizeable bar. So could be 5-10% improvement in optimized games.

One thing I noticed with The Last of Us, you mentioned you bumped up the textures on the Rx 580, but when the character you control (I don't know his name, because I don't play the game), I noticed the shadows on him are a lot more defined. Did you also increase the shadow settings or is there a slight change in time of day?

I’m away from my PC right now, but IIRC one of the higher memory settings is shadow resolution. On the other hand, it could just be the way AMD’s default profile shows colour and contrast. While making this comparison, I really noticed the difference between the footage from my external HDMI capture box when comparing Radeon to GeForce. The AMD always looks more saturated and contrasty (and, in RE4, way darker too).

Yup £50 for either of these cards ($60) is where it's at. For $150 / £125 - the RX 5600XT is FAR better. That's what I'd be reccomending for a budget used gaming GPU.

Good comparison over all. I ended up sticking a GTX 1060 6gb in a budget build for a friend for his entry level gaming pc. They are still good cards given their age and price. Also though, should be mentioned, GCN era cards have a random visual bug issue with Plague Tale: Requiem on certain characters hair (neon color halo effect in hair).

When I made the move to upgrade or sidegrade my RX570 8gb to a Lexindar RX580 2048 8gb I wasn't expecting any sort of gains but on average my fps count has increased by about 10% Thing too with the 2048's is whilst they are slightly hobbled they are to be found in brand new configurations with only the GPU chip itself being reused and everything else new. So on the face of it, a sub £60 8gb 1080p fairly decent card is very good in my book although I do wish I had gone that extra bit and bought the RX590 one which had full numbers but I am quite happy with my 10% less shaders or w/e and mine clocks nicely too using Afterburner so I could get the 10 per cent back in performance if I so chose.

AMAZING comparison! I've gone with an RX 570 4GB for my girlfriend's rig as it was a version that only needs 1x 8pin and limits at 120w (she has a shitty 400W PSU) and I am so happy with how these AMD GPUs aged. I would also add that as usual in the UK, the AMD card seems to be cheaper used with the 1060 6GB going for ~£60-£80 versus the AMD options going for £50-70.

@@NamTran-xc2ip Yeah there's some good deals on Nvidia too, they are generally more expensive though which makes sense since Nvidia cards usually support more features and technologies but if its rasterization performance thats your priority the RX 6000 is pretty good value right now before they disappear. I have a 6800XT and a 3080Ti, I often do comparisons between the two. You'd be surprised how often the 6800XT almost matches the 3080Ti in rasterization while consuming a lot less power too.

Also they are a little higher than 200 new.

Happy with the RX 480 Red Devil I bought a few month, especially since in 2023 I somehow was lucky enough to legitemetally buy a unicorn. Living in Germany might helped a tiny bit, but the point is: the Red Devil I bought actually didn´t mined for a single second in it´s entire life and that´s in freaking 2023! The guy I bought it of bought it new back than for his first DIY gaming pc and actually held onto it until this year despite obviously having enough money to upgrade every generation and I believe him since the monitor he was also selling due to finally upgrading was a 1080p/ 144Hz monitor lunched the same year as the RX 480, not a display any miner would have bought. And his 10 years old profile had 23 listings in all that time so yeah, after pushing sliders in Afterburner and running Furmark: my RX 480 8GB Red Devil is a legit unicorn in 2023, a 8GB GPU which haven´t mined it´s entire lifetime, freaking unbelievable.

Are you, ok? At 8:15 you were testing warzone 2 on different maps. Vondal is significantly smaller than Al Mazrah and runs better than Al mazrah. Thats why there is big gap between these 2 cards.

I'm good thanks mate. That doesn't match my experience, so I went back and did a few more runs using the RX 580 just now. There's a margin of error difference between my results in Al-Mazrah and Vondal (86.3 in AM vs 87.3 in Vondal). Maybe the bigger map is more demanding on the CPU, but I'm GPU limited here. Unfortunately I've since sold the 1060, so I can't go back and see if it does better in Vondal.

I kept my 390 till it broke, in it's last couple years it was held back more by my i5 6600k and 8gb of RAM. The fact that we are only seeing 8GB of VRAM becoming an issue recently shows how overly futureproof it was, especially with higher texture settings being designed for 4k screens while R9 390, RX 480 and 580 GPUs works best at 1080p in modern games.

I note the GTX has a 192 bit bus compared to the RX580's 256 bit bus and it does seem to show this in the return figures, that 64 bit loss plays out roughly about 5-10%.

I'm attempting to get myself a GPU in the UK that has support for H265 (HEVC) decoding mostly 4k for YT and for local files - I don't think the files/videos will be anything like the 4:4:4 nonsense or 10bit or 12 bit. Would the 1050 Ti at £60 be the best bet? I know I can get the cut down RX 580 with 2034 Shaders for £50 there or there abouts but my preference is CEX. I'm adding it to a 3570s cpu that can't cope with 4k 60 FPS on YT or local files without dropping frames on HEVC local 4k. Thanks for your continued theme of budget and used content on your channel. A 1050 or 1050Ti should be fine if all you need is video decoding, but also consider the Intel Arcs. They support more codecs, so if you can find one that’s affordable, and don’t mind working with a slightly idiosyncratic graphics card, an A310 or A380 is a good choice too. Those Cards were actually amazing mid-range cards, that were always (ok, the first mining wave 2017/2018 not accounted here) somewhat affordable and get you a good gaming experience at all games between retro, casual and the newest trpple A titles. I've got a bunch of GTX 1060 3GB/6GB and RX 470/480/570/580 4GB/8GB (and some used 1070's) in the last couple of years to build in a used, affordable pc-build, that i've sold for cheap in my community (friends, family, colleagues, recommendation through friends etc.).Most of them are stil in use, because they meet their users expectations for the price, they got it from me. Those little machines are still capable of casual gaming and your dayly use. But today i also would recommend to go for at least a RTX 2060 or a RX 5500/5600 (or maybe a GTX 1660 Ti/Super), if you have gaming in mind.

interesting results on infinite, i had a 580 previously alongside playing halo infinite pretty frequently and at medium 1080p i used to get 50fps average, and a bit above 60 on smaller maps, but on minimums it was above 60 regardless, take into account it was 2022 drivers too

Can you test a overclocked RX 590 GME (Or otherwise known as RX 580 XTR) those chips are like 15% faster than the default RX 580 but can often be had for a similar price.

I just wrapped up my comparison of the RX580 and GTX1060. In my testing the 1060 benchmarks better, but the RX580 scores higher FPS in gaming (by a small margin). That said, the GTX1060 runs cooler and is 3x easier to find for a reasonable price. I assume that each game will vary. I have an MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING (Twin Frozr VI) 8GB, from day of release. It is just now showing its lagging in recent titles. This sits in a rig with an i5-6600k (no OC) and 16 GB DDR4 2400 @ CL12. Next rig I am planning, now that I have a job, is going to be all AMD. Your FPS for Cyberpunk 2077 is different form mine. I get 55-60, drops to 50 on high 1080p gameplay. I am happy with medium which gives me a solid 60. The only annoying thing is the fans, they are starting to make noise when spun up. I can't seem to figure out how to open the coils so can put some oil/grease in them. I think I have well used that thing.

The 580 actually pulls about 40-60 watts more than the actual readings if you were to measure it with a watt meter. It is very well known Polaris GPU sensors do not report the wattage pulled through the pcie x16 slot. The extra wattage is worth it though.

Either way if u ask me and i noticed in my own testing radeon cards just pop off the screen looking better than nvidia, u should compare rx 6000 to rtx 3000 in a video i would be very interested in a video quality and graphics head to head.

In terms of raw compute, and games than can use it properly, the 580 is probably closer to a 1070 if anything. Speaking of, I got a 1070 for $75 with the only issue being a bad fan bearing. Bought a replacement set and it ended up being free after a dispute. It's a good GPU for my old games, but Stable Diffusion, text-generation-webui, and Starfield are making me look at upgrades. Sadly the VRAM/$ is terrible on newer cards.

My PC specs: CPU: Xeon E3 1225 V3 3.20 Gigahertz GPU: AMD Radeon RX 550 4 GB Sapphire Pulse GDDR5 RAM: DD3 12 GB (Regular RAM) 1600 Megahertz HDD: 2 TB Green Western Digital I can play Forza Horizon 5 on Medium to High settings and I get about 45 Average frames and the game only lags when it is night time while racing in the dirt with really heavy lighting. I also tried to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare II on it and let's just say it didn't go that well. I only got 30 FPS with fsr enabled and with really low graphics, I also tested it on State of Decay 2 Juggernaut edition and I got around 40 to 50 FPS average on the highest settings and with only 40 to 30 1% lows. So I would say that the RX 550 4GB is a pretty good graphics card for its age and I am truly amazed on how much load it can handle. I am also going to test it on Need for Speed Heat cause I haven't played that game yet so it will be interesting to see its performance. (I really don't use this PC to game that much, its my work PC so the specs are not good)

it's very interesting how rx580 footage has consistently darker shadows than GTX1060-mostly to its detriment, since there are a lot of details lost behind that pitch black shadow. I suspect that the processing quirk that caused this darker shadow also caused the black spots on the Witcher 3 benchmark because those areas were considered as under a shadow of some sort.

I can confirm the 580 is darker. I switched back and forth between these two in my own system and was shocked how the colors and shadows changed. The nvidia is accurate. The 580 was way off but is corrected using custom windows settings.

I’ve never tested a 590, but as it’s only a process shrink from the 580 I don’t think it will be too much faster than this. Meanwhile, the 1070 is a whole lot faster- about 40-50% in Cyberpunk, Fortnite & Forza, 20% in God of War. Warzone 2 might be closer- the 1070 was faster in WZ 1 but it looks like WZ 2 really prefers Radeon.

my friend has a 1060 and I had a 570. We were close on fps, his reported powerdraw was lower, but his overall system powerconsumption was higher, both on r5 1600. This could be due to nvidias notorious driver overhead or just the reported power draw not being correct. But I could undervolt my 570 by 185mv, then I was around I think 80w

Of course, you are limited to what they have in the shop at the time (although I think they will sent to different shops). It usually only takes a couple of days. Right now, curiosity had me looking at a Vega 56 for just £100. And now I'm waiting for it to arrive today so I can find out if a) It actually works (and not a dead mining card) b) If I can undervolt it and get massive power savings AND tweak it to overclock.

Always nice to see how these two lads fair against each other in time. AMD has proven time and time again to offer better performance for the price, but Nvidia has its advantages as well, with better encoding compression and support for ML and creative workloads. Though AMD's catching up! Competition drives the market bois, remember that.

Drivers are shit on old AMD sides. Lots of people are complaining about drives. Rx 580 8gb was always 5-10 fps faster than GTX 1060. In 2019, the magin was even bigger. In 2019's lots of title RX 580 was delivering more than 10fps than gtx 1060. But nowadays almost same as 1060 or 4fps better than 1060.

Only some issues with Magix Vegas, but it's up in the air who's fault exactly that was, as Davinci Resolve works excellently, and I did mention that Nvidia performs better in creative workloads.
