I used a .44 mag for a whitetail this year for the first time in 47 years of hunting! Mine was a 7 1/2” Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver!

.44 mag is just an awesome caliber period. I have the ruger .44 auto carbine and love it. Yesterday I was looking through some of the collection and found an old H&R handi rifle that's in .22 hornet. The hornet barrel has seen its better days and has a few inches of erosion past the chamber. I'm now going to look for a .44 mag barrel to bring this old handi rifle back into regular use.

You just made my Remington 788 44 Mag Bolt action from 1967 about double the value. Thks brother. Not that I'd ever sell it. It is my go-to deer and bear rifle for the big woods. Wait until your see the holes in the deers. Tracking them is easy. Just look for the spray hose on the trees. LOL> Great great rifles these 44 magnum bolties. FYI - I use Winchester white box and Magtec 240gr SP. It's not target ammo. For those interested Mason Outdoors on YT has done tons of ballistics gel testing for 44 mag. Incredible power.

I pretty much love EVERYTHING in 44 Magnum! - I dont care if it's the Ruger RedHawk revolver.. the Desert Eagle pistol..the Colt Anaconda revolver.. the Ruger 44 Carbine or the Ruger Deerfield.. or the wide assortment of lever guns.. if it's in 44 Mag then I want it in my collection! I would love to get my hands on a Ruger 77/44.. and that stainless model looks real nice! If there are 3 calibers that I absolutely love and that I have been shooting since the 80's and have never lost any love for.. it is .44Mag.. .22WMR.. and 7.62X39 - 3 of my favorite calibers! I started off learning all about brass reloading with .44 Mag.. 7.62x39.. and then 12gauge.. and now I reload brass for several other calibers.. but it all started with 44Mag and 7.62x39. Keep up the great work Who_Tee_Who.. I love your content!

My 77/44 was awesome and ran well with Nosler 240 JSP or Hornady 240 XTP. The barrel is pretty thin and warms up quick. After 3-4 shots-gotta let it cool. I didn’t realize that until fighting several range sessions getting all kinds of mad. Good luck to you this deer catchin season!

I have a 77/44 too, it’s an outstanding deer rifle. The first one that I bought had a bad barrel, hardest recoiling 16 rounds that I’ve ever fired-made 300 win mag feel like 556. Ruger bought it back. I purchased another one, had the barrel threaded ( older model than yours ), shimmed the bolt, and put a 77/22 trigger sear by either Tandem Kross or Volquartson ( can’t recall ) With a 1.5-5 power optic it hacks deer out to 225 yards on flat farmland, several in the 180 yard range and in- all were through and through. The 44 out of my now 17.5 inch barrel is an absolute beast. I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

Love the .44 mag cartridge in everything I've shot it in. As for the first site-in shot being low at 100, I've seen it before and predicted it this time. It's because the scope is mounted lower than most of yours so your "sight" and "hit" dots at 10 are farther apart than the scope and the bore axis. Keep up the great work...I watch your stuff almost every night!

I am a fan of the 44 mag rifle. Only problem with your site in is that it will be about 2.5"-3" high at 50 yards. I would have left it at about 1"- 2" low at 100, then you would be between 1.5" low (at the muzzle), but from 25 yards through 80ish you would be about zero through .5" high, and then dropping to no more than 2" low at 100 yards, which is about it's ideal max range. If you needed it to shoot a little farther, let say 125ish then just hold about 2" higher at that distance. So basically from zero to 100 yards is your zero hold range and still be pretty much spot on. Before I realized this, I was wondering why I was dropping deer but my impacts were like 3" higher than my aim point when I would shoot them at 40 to 60 yards.

I've taken 20 deers with it. But like I said 100 yards is about it. Keep that in mind. I've since gone to a 350 legend. I harvest deer w/neck & head shots. And the 350 has a tighter group. When ammo was hard to find a few years ago I bought a few boxes of 180 gr. because it was all I could find, before that I had only used 240gr in my Henry. I expected a change in point of impact, but it was much more than I expected. At 25 yards the 180gr hit about 5 inches higher, maybe at longer distances they get closer. I had to put a note on my rifle reminding myself where to set the rear sight depending on which bullet weight I'm shooting. I should have just waited until I found some 240gr, now I have a few boxes of both.
