its not for the hole in the middle, its for the ring around it (gap) because pieces of metal will fall in and stick to the magnet potentially damaging the new voicecoil when installed and played.

nice video. Placing a new, tight gasket over the surround is good enough to keep it in place without clamps or clothespins? and you do that to make sure its even? When did you spray accelerator onto the surround?

15" crossfire Xs not sure of the impedance. He runs 4 walled off doing 160 db sealed on the dash. Thing is brutal!

@vestern22 - I'm not either but I believe it's not always like that. Did you use direct replacement parts from same company ? Chances are they have changed stuff up.. That could be why. I'm not positive but it seems like if you replace something with the exact same thing it should be no different.. In the car audio world recones are super common and I've never heard anything about them being different once reconed. Maybe your using some expensive SQ ??
