The port tune would still be way off in the 40 Hz range, taking away the strongest feature of these woofers= there low freq. Prowess. Inverting would help very little, in this situation. If the tune was anywhere in the 26 Hz to 32 Hz range, then inverting would help more. In a sealed enclosure, inverting helps more % wise, if the enclosure is under sized, as you are then gaining in 2 areas= getting closer to specs. On Net Air Space, & incrementally more closer to the optimal tune. It takes so much more port length, in a ported enclosure, to tune 10 to 15 Hz Lower, then that in turn would take up so much more Net Air space(prob. another 1.2 Cu. Ft. Making this enclosures net, with inverted woofers, around 2.9 to 3.1 Net Cu. Ft.), unless the port length could be added externally, which can't be done in this setup, without port restrictions/blockage.

It all boils down to Hoffman's LAWS. 1. Efficiency 2. Deep Bass Extension 3. Enclosure Size - You can only pick TWO. ALSO: Do you want to satisfy a meter at a competition, or do you want to hear all the notes of your music? I did two fifteens sealed in a 2018 Civic sedan and I was in heaven! Almost 135 dB at 20Hz and 144-145 in the higher ranges. Everything just sounded amazing. I did sacrifice quite a bit of trunk with only 11 inches of room behind the box. (subs were firing forward)

You can probably get 5 cubes in that trunk, theres still room all around that box. Either build the box in the trunk or build 2 separate boxes that you can wiggle in there. But building the box inside the trunk would be best.

Proper enclosure is KEY! Back in the day when I was doing dB drag, we did a box for ONE 12" ALPINE TYPE R, Hit an official 150.2db on the dash! I've made more enclosures than I can remember.

Box didn’t come apart customer dropped the box on the bolt terminals cracking the side wall. I offered for materials to take it apart and fix it. Just think box is doing a 47 with a cracked loading wall the port is L shaped customer knew from the rip he didn’t have the space for them. He was also only charged 1000$ from the shop I didn’t see a dime of that money. We also explained we were very busy an I ended up having to build the box on my day off. He is also suppose to have a 8k on them. The parameters on sundowns site are for rms power not giving them the beans. The resonant freq of the car is 41 not the box tuning. Yes larger enclosure would get lower. He explained what was going in there an I built around his install. I bet on the 8k a fixed box that car does over a 150 on the meter.

Thanks for commenting. (A vehicle resonant frequency of 41hz would be for a vehicle size like a Suburban. That car is probably closer to 55hz. From the moment he turned up the music the lowest frequency that popped up was 39hz. Maybe it was the song, but man, that box tuning has to be pretty high. 40-42 maybe? I wonder if an 8" or 10" aeroport would be the better option.)

There is no way that car is at a resonant frequency at 41Hz. You must have not did your resonance test in the center of the vehicle interior without the center console. Second thing your shop charges way too much cause that is the jankiest box I've ever seen being sold for a grand cuz.. The bolt terminals are super long for absolutely no reason(or it looked to be in this video) but I guess from you not seeing any of that extra money they were charging people you just said F it or something especially if it was your day off.. You should not try to be building boxes that are "giving the beans" far as I'm guessing peak power it definitely should be within RMS range and not within busting your subs up all the time range. Was it made out of something better than birch? Even if it was birch wood this is easily a $250 or lower box.. Carpet was all not even thought out and was just cut on the port showing wood..Should have been glued down at least even inside the thing. I'm not even going to put computations into anything and betting that's tuned to 39-40Hz since you noticed the cars resonant frequency was "41Hz" as you say and that could be a good thing for SPL but not for when somebody wants to bust their lungs open from turning it up as they seem to have wanted but seems you went with what you wanted to do.. No disrespect or nothing, just built the thing and delivered I suppose. Another thing which may not be your fault, but don't install amps onto sub boxes for it will kill your amplifiers electronics from the frequency vibrations.. For context I used to help build my cousin's systems for SPL and sound quality in his Tahoe's / Suburbans and other stuff hitting over 150+dB back in the mid 90's. Can't beat those Orion amps and JL's..anyways..I wouldn't pay over the cost of wood for that type of box..

I listened to that song on my home stereo TV setup and my setup's response curve begins at 15 Hz. There is not a lot of bass in that song except for the beat which is not low at all and the synth bass, which is about a 'B' down to 'G' on a standard bass guitar. So, 4 or five more songs from different artists and shutting the doors/windows would show a greater range of actual frequencies heard and also, 39 Hz showed at least 3 times while the song was playing here. Perhaps an actual audio test CD is in order, as well. 🤗🤨😏

Hey MB. why do you have the SPL meter on the floor. here in Australasia we place it on the windshield at head height level. That would make more sense as its where the listening position is.

@Hotecce1- It depends on what organization you compete in. Every one thinks that there way is the best way to meter. Db drag meters on the passenger side Glass, with ALL windows up= not how people listen to music(with there heads up against the glass), Usaci puts the SPL meters in a steel globe, located in the passenger side, kick panel area(again not where people have there heads), & they allow any combination of doors, or windows to be open. Then there is in my opinion, the best way to meter= Meca Car Audio competitions, put the SPL meter on a seat, & about 26"/65 cm high( approx. @ Ear Level), with any combination of windows, or doors open= like in a Demo/Listening session.

Nice. I always build my own boxes. My dc lvl415d4 is in a 4.76 cube after port bracing and subs. Tuned to 26hz. They get low. Gives a great back massage at 10hz on about 20 on the head unit. Turn off the mids and highs. Really can't hear much. Just feel it. Did I mention their in a yaris. 2 xs 1200, 4 ioxus supercaps, 325 singer. Running on a marts 8k.

What happens when you take a simple 25w x 2@ 4ohm amp and power 2 kicker solo 12" classics ? Is a 154db attainable? Please tell me its not possible! I'm not sure what Sundowns those are, but on a 4k, a smaller box would help with cone control if they are being over powered. Maybe that was the builder's logic. Just because someone did it different, doesn't mean its wrong. Maybe he was being safe. The 1.5 cubes or so per sub, means it will have crisp punchy bass too. Me personally, I like 2.25 Cubes per 12 and closer to 16 cubic inches of port area. But, I like mine tuned to 35 Hz.

DC Audio subs definitely sound better in boxes closer to spec. I have a level 4 12” in a 1.70 cube tuned to 33hertz and it sounds great all around. I built a 2 cube tuned to 33hrtz and the only difference is the Lowes were slightly louder but nothing of significance. In my opinion the 1.70 cube sounds better and performs better.

Need additional details. Is it a Chrysler/Dodge or not? What, and if you are using an additional amplifier for the sub. (Since you said you have a bass knob I will guess it's a second amp.) And now to the part where it sounds like you are not using a crossover or some kind of ....Really wondering what you mean by pre amplified wire? Talking about using your factory wires after it's amplifier without RCA jacks into HI output sensing for the sub amp? If so, yes you need non amplified before a factory amp signal to your other amp. So many variables to know really. Even with a bass knob it should output sound directly to the level of the head unit or factory unit at whatever you set that knob to and go up or down in volume.. Do you have your sub amp gains super low, or high? Sorry for such a long reply but I like helping people out, also does the factory head unit have RCA outputs on it?

It has a factory amp and I do have the second amp wired to the rear deck speaker which is amped by the factory. I'll wire the second amp to audio wire that goes from the head unit to the amp and make adjust from there. It might just give me cleaner bass. Thanks for replying. @@God_Driven They make some line out converter type boxes for that year of mustang with the "Shaker" sound system, and probably the normal one but not quite sure if the normal one has an amplifier. Probably can go way cheaper than the only one I noticed on crutchfield unless you are into Rockford f's stuff. Anyways running the wire from the rears can work, but depends on that amp you are using, mind telling me what it is? Either case though you would get much cleaner signal from before the amplifier though as long as everything is grounded as it should be everywhere a long the route to the amp shouldn't have any whines or any sine waves happening. Mainly wanted to know the amp specifically to see what wattage it handles at the high outputs and usually they aren't or weren't made for such a huge signal or watts or whatnot... You're welcome eh.. Have fun. Now that I think about it that RF-DSR1 has something that helps control or keep the original computer in line or something which may be related to the volume leveling thing, but shouldn't be a problem if mounted before amp I'd hope. If that is the case though and you need something to alter the computer or ecu, then by all means it would be cheaper and more fun in the long run with a custom head unit and a way to mount it..Much cheaper..(Usually leaves the original amp unused though unless you have a harness for it.)

Also the speakers in that car are @2 Ohms and that amplifier sending signal is also 2 Ohms unless they are doing some trickery and just running them parallel and they seem to be 25w RMS.. So perhaps keep an eye out for that in the future.

I bought 2 8's for my car cause I wanted trunk space yet to be able to put groceries back there or whatever. I got a box made to the specs man I have no trunk space now anyways. The Skar ZVX 8's require such a bigger box than most 8's it's 2.5cuft Net after displacements proper box tuned to 38hz damn thing is massive but I'll tell you what it's loud and get's down and sounds so good. A proper box is a must if not then your only cheating yourself.

They built the box like that to be able to slid a box in the trunk. Otherwise your gonna have to build it in the trunk. With the subs being in a smaller box he needs another amp on em. It will be around 150db. U series subs take a smaller box so he might be able to salvage the box and put those in there and see how they sound. I think the stereo shop was just trying to make it work with what the customer had and not build the box in the trunk. It would be way louder if the box was built in the trunk and sealed off with a bigger amp on em and of course more air space. If those are Z series you can go up to 24 cuin of port area Did some calculations of the box..... deducting the wood thickness I come up around 1.62 cuft per sub. He's gonna build up pressure in that box and its going to tear the cone or surround up. The XL series of DC audio would be a good option. Talked to them before about getting 4 of those subs and dude told me that 2 12s would do around 152 db that they have a lot of guys hitting those with the right box and car prep. big difference between a 2.2 cuft box and a 1.6 cuft box with a sub requiring 2.5 cuft.

The 300 has the same trunk size as the Charger and Challenger, you have enough room for 2 12s, but don't really need more than 2 8s or 10s. I'm running 2 Sundown 8s in a 2010 300C.

From experience, the song you chose to demo matters when metering. All songs don't have low frequencies. Sometimes the lowest recorded frequency maybe 40hz.
