Great video! Inspiring training for a high school 5ker like me. One question, if you don't mind. If you've ever tried "lesser" supershoes, do you think there's a big difference between them and the alphaflies? I have some carbon plated hot pink women's Saucony Endorphin Pros I got for $80 (I'm a man). I'm loving them, but I'm curious if I'd like the alphaflies even more. Is there a real reason to drop the money on the alphaflies?

I'm a heavy sweater too, and I recently had some bad cramps in my lower legs during a race. I wasn't taking electrolytes because it was pretty cold during the race, but I think I still need to take salts in the future even when it's cold and I'm exerting hard.

Matt, I live in Eastern NC and it's extremely humid and hot. I too also deal with cramping from excessive sweating due to heat even though I drink a ton of water and try to get plenty of electrolytes. I recently bought a Magnesium supplement and can already tell the slightest difference even though I haven't been taking it for very long. You might want to take a look into supplementing because Magnesium is responsible for hundreds of functions in your body and regulates the amount of sodium and potassium each cell holds. Most people don't typically get enough through food especially someone training at a high level like you will be. Best of luck and I look forward to more of your videos.

Really looking forward to following your journey. I also used to always cramp in latter stages of marathon. It started in my neck during one last year..Since then I had sweat test done and the results weren't that surprising to me. But the scientific recommendation was to take sodium during future races. Just did Gold Coast Marathon and took a salt tablet every 30 mins. 1st marathon I've done and not cramped.

This is so good! Thank You Matt! Thank You wider Sweat Elite Team! I am supremely envious of the locations, temperatures and altitudes you are able to run at. I'm a very amateur runner trying to break 3 hours for the marathon. I train at sea level in Saigon, where the humidity is near enough 95% at all times and the lowest daily temperature is usually 28 C. In December and January it drops to 23-ish on a few "cold days". Most of the time it is around 30-35 C. I guess it is kind of like Florida. Obviously, I sweat like a trooper. I was wondering... given your travels and the range of athletes you work with (people preparing for the humid Tokyo 2021 etc.)... have you read or heard of any studies that focus on the relationship between Pace & Heat / Humidity?

If you manage to break 2.20 with this amount of training you truly are a beast. The cramps are a sign of insufficient amounts of kilometers. You need to add 8-10 k evening joggs at least 5-6 days a week to build up a strong enough base. Or are the evening joggs already there without you mentioning them?

@sweatelite
@sweatelite 2 жыл бұрын
They're both exceptionally good racers; I think it comes down to personal preference. The VF's are a little less stable than the AF's but many prefer them over 10k through Marathon. Some find the AF's a bit clunky and challenging to wear around u-turns or tight corners but I don't have that issue with them. I'd start with VFs and see how you go.

Side stitches are fairly common in female runners, there's not much research on it but there's a reasonable correlation with the menstrual cycle. If I put in a hard effort during the week prior to my period I'm guaranteed an intensely painful stitch without fail and I'm hearing other people talk about similar incidents the more I chat to people about it. You do have to structure your training and racing around around the ol' uterus as a female runner unfortunately.
