This should be a standard practice on all magazines for air rifles. I hope a lot of manufacturers see this video and take note. Great stuff mate.

My old Impact MK2 and the M3 I had already had holes for different spring tension settings from the factory. I swapped the M3 for a Ghost and that has the same problem although not quite as bad. Bought some CARM magazines for it and don’t have the problem anymore. Still prefer my Air-Arms though, mechanical indexing eliminates that problem altogether.

I have noticed that my groups would tighten when magazine is at last few diabolos, that is, when spring tension is the lowest and therefore lowest skirt damage, this is great advice and I have modified my magazine, thanks!

I have had very mixed results with 3D printed magazines as well. The ones from CARM have been the best for me, but some times you just think its best to fork out for the original OEM ones. Nice solution to the magazine tension. If the skirt is damaged enough then air pressure can get past the pellet and also hinder the skirt expansion.

Maybe some of these problems are that fx is designed mainly for higher powered market than the UK and .22 and above which wouldn't hurt the ammo especially slugs with that tention and the little 177 sub 12 is a fraction of there consumer market and possibly resulting in a that will do type outlook
@sub12airgunners2 ай бұрын

Such a neat solution to an obvious problem. I wonder how many requests for the jigs you will get 🙂 Nice also to see Theoben were on the right track all those years ago - they mostly had 4 holes to adjust the tension - got to love a Scrapid, however the DRS has come along nicely and the looks match the performance. outstanding work.

great job mate 👍 for me it’s single shot loader all the way one definitely more accurate results in my experience and two stops me blowing through a gazillion pellets in a session (could be a bit of an exaggerated number 🤣🤣🤣🤣) but just slows me down a bit which for me improved my shooting and bank balance 🤪
@sub12airgunners2 ай бұрын
i would agree i will always go ssl if i am doing groups it does slow you down and you have much less chance of damage to the pellet 😀
@NathanVdV3 ай бұрын
even so if the pellet gets damaged ever so slightly in the mag, when the pellet gets pushed inside the barrel the oval shape gets corrected a tad, and when that burst of air gets behind it it opens up even more to fill the whole barel evenly (or it should) thus negating the fact that the skirt is damaged. and yes not all pellets will to 100% that but I have a maverick and it also has some good tension on the pellets, yet its more accurate then you hand loading pellets 50 yards.
@NathanVdV3 ай бұрын
which I commented before watching the end lol.

Hi bud the one think i found that makes a big difference in accuracy is the stock screw torque. There set at the factory around 4nm but my best groups are at 6nm of torque but every one will be different but defo worth experimenting with.

The skirt damage in itself isnt overly significant to down range performance.. HOWEVER.. what is of more significance is that the pellets with flattend skirts when loaded via a sprung magazine will often be loaded into the barrel eccentrically. 8t can increase the yaw on the pellets before they've even been fired. You can test this easily too. Feed a mags worth of pellets through the mag as per jakes vid, to simulate the skirt damage,but then single shot load them carefully into the barrel.

This is exactly why i dislike spring tensioned magazines. The simple ones that use an O-ring to hold the pellets (like the HW100) or single shot loading is what i preferred.

I don’t really like the mini magazine for the drs the new plastic they use is flimsy it’s cheap. They claim there’s a ball bearing in it and there is not. The new mechanism might mitigate side to side movement, but there’s no ball bearing. I just don’t understand why FX doesn’t go to an aluminum magazine. It blows my mind, the biggest air rifle company in the world and they’re shipping their guns with plastic magazines.
@r.in.shibuyaАй бұрын
Hilarious! Does this industry not do any actual QC? Pro tip for the product designers…. Keep the shape of pellet “brace” as a complete circle and you can keep the same tensioning system. They just have a massive design flaw on a crucial part of that product.
