Subaru 22B Clone Build; Getting the Worst Done

While we wait for some parts to come in for our Subaru WRX STI 22B Build we can get a head start on some more wiring and re-assembly. The firewall area and ALL the chassis wiring can start to go back in along with our Haltech R3 Bulk Head connections. With getting both sets of wiring in it is setting us up to be able to merge the Haltech with the Stock wiring to get an almost OEM functioning car.

I work in a body shop, and when we have to dive that deep I label the "sections" with numbers to help remember how to layer everything in. It helps both me and my coworkers. Just a tip for the next deep dive! 👍

I’ve done that in the past, but found everything really Only clips into one other receptacle. The issue I have is not remember or taking enough photos to remember the routing 😂

9:52 - on my mustang restoration, i had the dash frame powder coated white. It's better than having surface rust and makes it easier to see under there once everything is together when you use a light... Should you need to do work under there. Don't forget to grind some powder coated areas for grounding components. Very nice build bro💪😎

The charging system does go thru the cluster. I tried to put an LED bulb in for the battery warning light and it didn't like it. My charging system quit working. Put the regular bulb back and worked just fine.

As dusk fell over Snake Ridge, Marcus rolled his 2018 WRX STI to the starting line, its iconic turbocharged rumble sending chills through the crowd. This time, though, he wasn’t the only one packing a punch. Opposite him, the 2022 WRX GT glided into position, but something was different-the whir of the CVT was gone. Sam had swapped in a modified STI transmission, fully manual, transforming the GT into a whole new beast. The two drivers exchanged nods, each recognizing the other’s dedication to Subaru performance. With the countdown underway, both cars revved in unison, sending a deep roar echoing through the canyon. The flag dropped, and both machines rocketed forward. Marcus’s STI surged ahead with raw, unrestrained power, but this time Sam’s GT kept pace. The manual transmission gave him the control to match the STI’s brutal launch, pushing every ounce of horsepower to the ground without the CVT’s delay. As they tore into the first curve, Marcus threw the STI into the turn, its all-wheel-drive system gripping tightly as he powered through. But Sam’s GT, now free of the CVT limitations, mirrored his move, holding the line just as sharply. The adaptive suspension allowed the GT to stay planted, flowing through each corner with surgical precision. Approaching the Snake Ridge’s winding midsection, Marcus pushed the STI to its limits, each shift timed to keep the turbo spooled. Sam, with the manual transmission, was right there with him, responding to each throttle press and corner with the GT’s now razor-sharp response. They were neck and neck, both engines howling, each driver locked in the intensity of the race. The final stretch arrived, with the STI taking a slight lead. Marcus downshifted, ready to push through the last few feet, but Sam had one last trick. Timing the shift perfectly, he hit the GT’s powerband in sync with the road’s incline. The two cars roared across the finish line side by side. Silence fell, and all eyes turned to the timing board. After a tense second, the result flashed: the 2022 WRX GT had edged out the STI by just a hair. Sam’s gamble on the STI transmission had paid off, giving the GT the raw control it needed to best the legendary STI by the smallest margin. Marcus nodded, a grin spreading across his face. He knew he’d been beaten fair and square, yet he felt a sense of pride. Subaru’s new generation had proven its place in the lineup, while the STI had shown it could still hold its own.

Check the vent tube on your gas tank thats probably why your tank took a breath when removing the cap

The dash beam is used as a ground for a few things. Hope the powdercoating doesn't impact that.

Just remove the powder coat in the grounding spots and it’s no issue 👌

@Smeedia Cool just making sure. I actually redid some of the grounds after pulling the dash for a second time when adding A/C just to be sure. Grounding gremlins can be a pain.

My FD does the same thing, it must be pressurized like yours. To be honest, I did not know that was an issue. Due to mine having a bad fuel system when I got it, something must be wrong in the system as well. Gonna have to look into this, glad you said something so now I know 😵‍💫

It’s got to be the vent line for the tank, it should be equalizing pressure as fuel goes in and as it gets sent to the engine 🧐

i am not looking forward to messing with the wiring harness. i plan on tear down my outbacks interior to put new sound deadening material under all the carpet and everywhere else to make it quieter inside.

Techron mayhaps have fixed my fuel level sender/sensor issue... not quite sure yet. My issue was that if I filled the tank up completely, a CEL would trigger for the level unit on the second startup. This CEL would remain until I was at about 15-20% of a tank in which case it would turn off until I got more gas. It's been doing this since 2016, I've just dealt with it. The gauge was not accurate so I relied on the tripometer in my daily driving. I tested it with the built in diagnostic function and it mechanically works fine. It updates in like wide intervals, best way I can describe it. And the values are not uh representative of what's in there. So the car's been under the knife for a long time now, haven't driven it more than a handful of miles in years due to various problems that kept popping up. It was like whackamole tbh, fix one thing and something else reared it's head. Either way I had to put about 120 miles on it this past week after sorting a few things out that recently broke. I put about $40 of 93 into her about halfway through. I thought for sure I was going to get some change (paid cash) and top it off, but it took all the gas. Didn't trigger a CEL either. I'll know for sure once I fill up again and I hear the nozzle turn off when it's pumping. It might not be 100% full tank now but it should be close enough where it'd trigger the CEL I'd imagine. I'm gonna keep an eye on it, probably mention it again in a future Techron sponsor segment. Dude, wild boars are no fucking joke. Swords are great but get some Pikemen or Spearmen up in there too. I wouldn't mind me some wild boar bacon though, not at the expense of a leg however. Reposting this comment because YT decided I couldn't edit and add my shit about wild boars.

It definitely fixed a fuel level sensor issue for me in the 911 when I had it. Sent two bottles through and it started working again. 😂 I’ll keep that noted, I had a similar issue to that once and it ended up being the charcoal canister acting up. Dude a wild boar 🐗 can be suuuuper deadly, I’ve seen some horror stories from those things 😶

I doubt there's going to be much work being done anytime soon as we're knocking on winter's door here in New England, but I will report back for the next segment if there's any updates. They will be sheeted in DR25 and the exhaust and turbo will Both be cerakoted. I’m not stressing it. It’ll have proper heat management on it 💪

The wiring schematic as the cheat sheet lol. I do lots of wiring merges and I can say learn how to read a wiring diagram before you go this deep. Obviously at this point tanner knows how to handle the spaghett, lol now it comes down to how tucked do you want it.

And it’s irony. But all Subaru owners should just go ahead and run some injector cleaner 😂 especially them side feed 04-06 sti guys that have critical injector failure due to them sticking open hydro locking your cylinder with gas, and if you have an exhaust leak could burn your car down. That 7 dollar injector cleaner helps a ton if they do stick hit them with a screw driver handle untill not stuck any more.
