I love when people say this looks annoying. Annoying is having to remove the intake and all sort of other stuff just to get to the spark plugs. Then remove fuel rails...

I have the Tone set and I use a Tone ratchet with the slim 3/8 drive in a 1/4 head. It makes changing spark plugs on my 2017 Crosstrek much, much easier. That BRZ has less room than the Crosstrek to work in. Using a ratcheting wrench is a plus with the Tone set for sure. Great video, thx again !

crosstrek and impreza are the easiest plugs to change. I usually use 1/4 adapters and extensions on impact driver to remove and replace them.

dang, I'm so lucky with the 2011 outback with the EJ253... the spark plugs are tilted slightly upwards, and there seems to be TWICE the space to the frame!

I’m a 2 month old 17’ Toyota 86 owner and was looking for a video exactly like this. Great video and no need to apologize for the quality. Great detail and thanks for the links to the sockets. I plan to keep my 86 for a long time and do all my own service work. Again, thanks for the great video and keep up the BRZ/86 content.

Also wondering if the flex on the torque wrench combined with the uni joint made it more awkward than necessary while using the KTC. Both look great. I'm assuming KTC is made in Japan and Tone made in Taiwan? I only have a little ratchet from Tone, it's quite nice, especially for the price.

Not bad. I think Pennzoil Platinum Ultra is a tier above the other two. Mobile 1 20k and Valvoline Extended Protection may have been more on par with Pennzoil. Ultra also ester in it more like a high mileage oil.

Honestly, just lift the engine. I just did this job and it's WAY easier to just lift the engine than mess around doing the 1 click ratchet with no space. It takes like 10 min to get the front on jack stands, skid plate off, 2 nuts for the engine mounts, and jack up 1 side of the engine. It gives you so much more room to work with. If you have sticks for arms then maybe you can get by without doing this but I have man hands lol.

ok so i was able to remove the injector cover..but on the 2013 fr-s.. one of the guides holding one of them is in the way.. and the part attached to the wheel well... prevents you to put it on the right so you have to remove that thing on the wheel well that holds the 3 injector tubings.. but there is a small 2 wire clip. that is in the way.. i don't want to work with that in the way.. for the life of me.. i could not remove that thing.. and i did now want to break it so .. basically.. my car is running ok.. is said s,,.w it.. put everything back and i will do some maintenance somewhere else.. i gave up.. not for me..

When I went to the dealership looking for a GR86 I quickly figured out that it wouldn’t be easy/cheap to replace the spark plugs. But I asked them how it’s done and they didn’t know. So kinda just stop there for a few seconds and then I just asked, do we have to lift or drop the engine? Employee: probably.

Question about the KTC set. Is there a reason why you couldn't just use another spark plug socket (Koken Z series maybe?) with a short extension and swivel? What is so special about that set? Thanks.
@michaelclaybourn1335
@michaelclaybourn1335 8 ай бұрын
I can't guarantee my answer... May not even be relevant to the question...I don't have either of these fancy sets. Just a socket and extension...I had to use a 14mm deep socket so that it didn't stick on the spark plug because the spark plug and that socket won't come out together so you have to be able to take out one at a time.. I tried like 97 different combinations of extensions and ratchets 😂

Seeking advice: Just had to have my manual transmission output shaft seal replaced for the second time. Shop replaced it and it was still dripping transmission fluid and they weren’t sure why. Could there be some other issue causing this? OEM seal used both times. I’ve been driving a manual for 24 years. Car is high mileage but well maintained.
@forresttaylor2757
@forresttaylor2757 Жыл бұрын
It could be a number of different things. Could be that they damaged the seal when they installed it, could be that the bore that the seal sits in has a burr that caused the seal to be compromised as it was being installed, or it could even be shaft is worn in a way that the seal wont seal up to it. All of these are things that should be checked before you install a new seal. Anyway I would take it back to the shop have them look it over again and give them a chance to make it right. If they’re still adamant they can’t find anything then I would definitely get a second opinion from a different shop
@stevef3521
@stevef3521 Жыл бұрын
@@forresttaylor2757Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I should’ve been more clear. I changed the transmission fluid myself and that’s when I noticed seepage around the seal - no dripping on the garage floor at this point. I then had a shop replace the seal. No mention of anything out of the ordinary. Shortly after the first seal was replaced, I noticed it was dripping fluid onto the garage floor. I took it back to the same shop a couple days ago and they replaced the seal again. They still weren’t sure why it was leaking. It’s not my daily, so they told me to bring it back in 2 weeks to check up on it. The tech said it wasn’t low on fluid both times they serviced it. I’m really hoping it was just a bad install on the first one. Trustworthy shops are few and far between in my area. Thanks again!
