So happy to read this :) You definitely don't need a van! I recently made my way all the way from the East Coast to Alaska while car camping in my Forester and I wouldn't swap it for a van if i had a choice. Good luck and safe travels!

Cool build. A tire plug kit and decent quality air compressor might be a good option if you can afford it. It would allow you to fix a puncture without having to remove the tire from the car and you wouldn't be stuck running the temporary spare donut tire. Safe and happy travels.

I have the exact car. My 2004 Subaru Forester XT (was 2.5L) now has a used donor engine (2.0L) turbo engine. Fun car! Especially good for dirt, ice and snow (with the right tires of course). I am excited to find your video and will study it. Thanks Asha! I am subscribing before even watching your video :) Blessings and safe travels to you, and yours.

@@ashaslaw Yeah, Asha. I watched several of your videos so I know [I believe] you went on a long and winding North America trip! And, you just recently [right?] left for your Alaska tour. It will go well (check that oil, and plan your gas consumption - Gas Buddy App). And, I watched the safety video you made (thanks good advice). I am 61 just after this full moon, and appreciate what you teach us. I like the heater for a cup of liquid!! Thank you for being you, and blessings to you on your trip. May your trip be filled with peace and love, sister. :). I found you by searching for 2003-2008 Subaru Forester camping or something like that. Mine is red too! 2004. Keep us posted. I will follow along. HAPPY TRAILS 🌱

Great build. One hint. When using bungee chord (elastic) I’ve found it helps to tie a knot at the end so the toggle stoppers don’t come off. I use them a lot for my home made outer wear (fleece jackets etc).

I am glad I found this channel! Very well thought out and constructed Asha! It looks like you have worked with wood before. One never gets things 100% the first time. It will take a few trips to have it set up to how you like it. Even then, you will see things or go in different environments and will want to make minor adjustments to your setup to suit. The challenge is to make sure you do not go overboard and have so many ideas or whatever that causes you to change to a bigger vehicle unnecessarily.

Very nice Forester and buildout! Subscribed👍 I have an '06 N/A that I think about building out.. I love the size and fuel mileage compared to my van 😅as you mention the stealth is nice especially in my old lady spec foz, just a bit more cramped than I can handle long term.

Thank you! To be honest I was a bit worried that I will feel too cramped in my Forester but it actually feels perfect! Probably would be different in winter... But I also don't carry too many things with me - only gear I use on a daily basis. Summing up - if I were you, I'd totally give it a try! :) Good luck!

@@ashaslaw You have a good setup and made really good use of space! and once you are on the road you realize how little you really need day to day. Just need that 6 foot of horizontal space for sleeping and some storage really.... I have slept in my forester a few times on the passenger side, but even with the seat fully up it is a bit tight at 5'11" 😅 I already built out my van and based my channel around it but I am attached to the forester! and will gain inspiration from you in the event I sell the gas guzzler, the funny part is the forester is better off road then my 4x4 van 🤣They are awesome vehicles!

Thank you for your tour and your ideas. Two questions: Since you did some backcountry camping on your travels, did you upgrade the stock tires on your Subbie? If not, do you feel the stock tires performed well enough to your liking? Best wishes on your travels "down under". Can't wait until you're back in the States on your trip to Alaska. Looking forward to following along!! Happy travels...Be safe...

@ashaslaw

Of course! There are many reasons why I decided to buy this particular model, including the fact that this car is considered a Unicorn. There were also many practical reasons to it, i.e. I find older Subarus really reliable. Add to that the airfare to get to it......I don't get it......doesn't make sence 2me....🤔 Great job on the build.....just curious why you didn't usd the space on either side of the wheelwell opposite the cabinet 4 even more storage like alot of people do? Happy Travels.😊

This vehicle is unique, so it is really difficult to get. Old Subarus also rust really fast, so buying it on the East Coast wasn't an option. I dived deeper into this topic in one of my videos (the one with views of Glacier NP), so feel free to watch it if you need more explanation :) Regarding your second question - I simply don't need more storage.
