wow this is the easiest fuel filter to change I have yet to see. Thanks. You're channel has been keeping my 01 Forester happy and healthy. Only 108,000 miles on her if I take good care of it I hope she sees at least 200,000. We used to have an old legacy (early 90s maybe late 80s?) That thing had over 250,000 miles on when we sold it to another family for their kids first car after being through me and all my siblings lol. Solid vehicles.

@@666sk8erguy I got lucky and found the classic old guy that never drove it and kept it in a garage. I put a bunch of miles on it this year, I put a tow hitch on and haul my dirt bike and 12 foot jon boat with it. Got it up to 118k now and no issues. I moved to a really snowy/icy area this year and I have never been so thankful to have that thing.

@@collinmc90 haha I feel that dude, they fucking EAT in the snow and ice, especially going up hills. That’s what’s up though brotha glad you found a good deal. I had to replace my timing belt and head gaskets at like 175K miles which fucking sucked the chode but she’s been running strong for 6 months since then.

Are the non-external Subaru fuel filters even worth changing out if you don't have starvation or fuel pump-related issues that demand the pump being inspected/replaced? I'm inclined to just leave it along as long as possible on my 2014 Forester, but defer to your suggestions.

I saw on my Maintenance Records - my last fuel filter replacement was at 115K & I'm at 154K now so I ordered the Purolator filter (about half of the OEM on Amazon). I'm thinking about changing the PCV Valve & the Spark Plugs next as they were also last changed at 115K. I already changed the Air Filter. On Amazon - they wanted $15 just for a PCV Valve... Is there a PCV valve on both ends of Hose or is one just a Fitting?...

My 03 wrx just threw a p0172 code any ideas it runs ok sometimes sometimes lacks power it just had a new crankshaft pulley put on but I think it is for the 2.5 not the 2.0 the one the shop used

I get engine vibration when accelerating,and as a result full vehicle starts shaking. As soon as i step off the gas pedal , vibration stops. Wheel balancing and axles are ok... Could it be a clogged inline fuel filter. Im facing this problem on forester 2004 2.5x NA automatic.

Weirdly, my 04 LL bean has a strange bracket where the clamp should be. It covers the top where the filter would install and has two holes in the topfor maybe bolts or tubes. It kinda looks like the filter is supposed to compress inside, but it definitely doesn't fit. I'm not sure what it should look like because I bought this car as a shell and am in the process of swapping in a JDM ez30D w/ a USDM intake manifold. Should I remove this bracket and just zip tie it in?

Got a question for you. I've got a 2012 forester 4EAT w/135k miles that is way down on power. It seems to run smoothly at idle and while driving but it just has no guts. There are no engine lights. It does burn about 1qt of oil every 500-600 miles. I have cleaned the air filter in the last month, changed the plugs in the last 30k miles, replaced the cats in the last year, and always make sure it isn't down more than 1/2 qt of oil. Could it be fuel filter getting clogged or somehow the fuel pump is weak? Could it be related to the oil consumption like it has low compression or something like that? It did, once, die at a stop light and took 5 minutes to start back. Since then had no other problems. Any suggestions?

Does pulling the fuse for the fuel pump, and starting the engine damage it? And conversely, after replacement, does having no fuel in the line before starting the engine also risk any damage?

No. No damage at all either way.

Thanks again man, just replaced mine succesfully. Ended up pulling the plug for the fuel pump near the rear seats instead of the relay. I noticed that the hose attached to the out part of the filter was bigger than the one coming into the filter - it slipped off really easily. Will have to replace this next, along with the appropriate hose clamps. Your videos are invaluable, i've used them as a reference for many repairs now and it's the only way I can affordably maintain and have a car.

Hey mate. Under the glove box... there is 3 connectors on the bracket. front one is a white square connector, second is a big brown (main relay) connector and the back one is a white circle. Which one do I pull for the fuel relay? Any idea? Cant find it in the manual I have anywhere :(

How does all the air that was in the filter get out though? Does it all have to go through fuel injectors or something???

The pressurized fuel from the tank forces the air through the filter, to the fuel rails, past the pressure regulator, into the return line, and into the fuel tank. Usually two key on cycles will prime the system.

+D Pan not yet, but it's quite simple. Unplug the connector and loosen the two hose clamps and it's out.

When it's plug in, stuttering is very noticeable. Unplugged not so much.

+D Pan that's not a definitive answer to whether the sensor is bad or not. But is a good indicator. When you unplug the sensor the engine runs off of a preprogrammed set of parameters in the ecu rather than relying on the sensors input data. Still would need to scope the sensor to be dead accurate. May just need to be cleaned.

You'll need to mark it if you can't remember. Yes it matters. Fuel only moves through the filter one way. There's an arrow on the filter showing in and out.

For the older canister style filter, I'd stay oem, WIX, or Purolator. The modern filter is oem only as far as I know.

Hi @Mrsubaru1387. Did the fuel filter on my 97 forester. It runs like a bag of poop. Almost stalls at lights and acceleration is horrible most of the time. Sometimes it goes hard. Can I get air trapped in the system? If so how to deal with or should I just opt for a new fuel filter. (Rycoz348)

I didn’t cycle the ignition to build pressure. I just started it. Let it idle for a while. Then I went on a drive for 1.5hrs. Noticed terrible performer. Fuel starved. Would go better after shutting off vehicle and then restarting.
