Subaru Impreza WRX STi with LOUD Screamer Pipe - Accelerations, Fly Bys & Sounds

During a few track days at Monza Circuit I recorded this great sounding 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. The car is fitted with an external wastegate which makes it really scream and believe me that's one hell of a scream to hear in person.

thats a screamer pipe for ya basically sends all his waste gate gases to atmosphere right after the turbo. I can't believe they let him on the track with it..those are super legal due to noise and emissions levels but damn they're fuckin awesome I've only heard one in person once

I prefer the boxer "burble rumble" sound because it can be destroyed if tuned too much and adding different exhausts etc. But its no big deal still sounds mean, everyone must do what they like with their car and this guy can drive and is also having a blast

Yeah it's really fast on track but I don't think it has much more power than the stock one partly because what impressed me most is that I was able to quickly see the engine and I assure you that seemed completely untouched at first sight. I think the sound you are referring to is the wastegate rapidly opening and closing. Most probably caused by the electronic boost control running in closed loop. It keeps the wastegate shut until the desired boost is achieved and then opens it, but the boost over shoots just a tiny bit and the EBC adjusts again to try to keep the boost where set to. So you end up with this rapid motion of boost that fluctuates just a bit and the EBC rapidly keeps adjusting the wastegate opening to keep the boost at desired level. Very audible because of the screamer pipe. OR the turbo is surging a bit, which gives a fluctuating boost signal to the wastegate which in turn causes a similar end result where the wastegate keeps adjusting in rapid pace.
