How do I know if my transmission is tr580 or tr690? It’s a legacy 2018
@lag17913 жыл бұрын
Just FYI, The item that he pulled off the CVT was not an Oil filter. It was a oil strainer. Big difference! The shop manual shows that the transmission does have an CVT oil filter but it is unservicable without removing transmission and splitting the casing.
@MicahFunk2 жыл бұрын
From what I understand is that this oil 'filter' doesn't need to be replaced because it's just a fine mesh screen. Just use a bit of brake cleaner and clean it up and reuse it. Only replace it if it was damaged somehow.

Have you ever considered putting your additional super strong magnet on the outside of the pan? This way whenever the fluid gets changed you can just remove the magnet first before draining the fluid. It may help to move the magnet around the bottom of the pan to loosen up the metal particles so it can drain more easily. Just an idea I've had for years but never heard of anyone who did it and what their experience had been with it.

hi, actually depends on the thickness/quality and rubber content of the cork/rubber gasket. has to be tight enough to seal properly but not so much as to deform the gasket. put those gaskets on dry as they will slip and deform as you tighten them. also make sure the bolt holes arent pushing up and cut the gasket as you tighten them. we press them back down with our arbor press. we dont use silicone or gasket cement. cheers

@YepThatsIt3 жыл бұрын
hi, at this stage, oil change on its own and changing filter will do very little to help improve your trans. on any trans a regular filter service and clean pan and magnet ( also add additional magnets) would have helped keep metallic debris away from solenoids. i recommend every 50,000km when trans has done under 200,000km and then when has done over 200,000km to do trans filter service every 25,000km to get make life out of it. the valve bodies on these trans are also notorious for wearing out bores where valves run. check all the basics first, then remove trans pan and see what is happening, then you have to decide if you want to try checking out valve body and solenoids. good luck & cheers

Lack of fluid changes
@_CryptoNoob_3 ай бұрын
Most generally any solenoid failure or chain slip issues are all related to bad maintenance. If you replace the fluid by at least draining and filling every 30k miles, most of the time you can avoid any solenoid or chain slip issues for the duration of the vehicle life. Bad fluid is almost always the root issue of failures in this cvt. Subaru has one of the best cvt, and they always get a bad rep because you only hear about the failures, never about the ones that last 300k without a single problem. Mine is a 2015 with 169k and has never had an issue since it was new
