Usual quality job, but they bolt bridges together… just a matter of how you bolt it together really isn’t it, can do the same thing with the cheapest connectors, 8 bolts, minimum of welding, doesn’t disturb the original body and you don’t even have to lift the carpet, unbolts too 😅 no doubt you can too Mr kiwi … invent me something to replace front torque boxes on a 65 that doesn’t involve torque boxes 👍
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160

Bridges are designed to flex or they'll break. Flex is the enemy in a high performance automotive situation. A 12 point roll cage would eliminate the need for torque boxes 😬

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Hi Kiwi, if you bolt chassis connectors through the chassis extensions you will start to Jack the chassis in long before the bolts are tight enough, ( weld thick wall tube into the chassis for the bolts to pass through ) cheap neat & reversible modification, probably more attractive than some odd blob welding method of attachment, however if your getting serious about things and intend fitting a V8 Detroit diesel or the like then your method is preferred, I watched you fit a big block into another mustang recently and you made it look easy, sure sign of genius mate 👍 as for the full cage… had one in an MGB hard top fitted, could never get back out of it un-aided 😆

Kiwi, when you did the video on strengthening the torque boxes on the Barracuda, from memory, I think you indicated that beefing up the torque boxes was all that was needed ( no sub frame connectors needed) on that car , maybe I got that wrong ? .If that's the case , I imagine that would also apply to my VH Valiant? .I'd rather not have to do the sub frame connectors , if it's avoidable. Put it this way , when I used to use the bumper jack on the front, body flex was evident by the door binding on the catch .Id like to cure that.🙂
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ай бұрын
The plan was/is to put subframe connectors on the Barracuda. Creating torque boxes for the A bodies adds a lot of strength and will likely give you the improvement you're looking for. The Barracuda needs subframes to cope with the stoked out 440 it's getting. I'd try just the torque box mod on yours 😁😎👍

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Hey, thanks for that , a 245 Hemi with a 2.92 rear end isn't going to be doing any twisting. What I'm wondering now though, is adding strength to the torque boxes going to be something the certifiers need to aprove??, you never know with them , sometimes I wonder if they know themselves. Nice work on that Fastback, they're beautiful cars.
@barrycuda3769
@barrycuda3769 Ай бұрын
By the way, I dont think I ever noticed that flex in my smaller A bodies , but the VH onwards are much larger, (except the Charger) that might have something to do with it.

You've just turned it into a full frame unibody car. Not really sure why they didn't do that to begin with. Im guessing cost had a lot to do with it. Cause the stiffer the chassis structure. The more rattles you have in the dash and whatnot if you're building cheap cars on an assembly line. Just a guess

It was and still is all about cost. Adding a torque box to the mustang cost about 4-5 bucks but they made millions of them. Save $5 each on a million cars and boom you just end added 5 million dollars to your bottom line ...... for doing less.

Not with a mustang unfortunately. You should be able to find a nice dry rust free one out there though😎👍. I did a quick video on 6 key rust spots on early mustang a couple of years back. That might be helpfull

You 4 linking it but keeping the leaf springs? Seen that set up a few times on RWD Ford Escort rally cars here in the UK. Retaining the leaf springs means you don't need to fit a panhard rod or watts linkage.

@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ай бұрын
This car is keeping its leaf springs for now but I do believe it will have to have a four link with over 600 HP. I may have said it was getting a four link but that was just me projecting😁😎👍

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160, I think it's already been said, but a spray bottle containing water is handy for putting out sound deadening material fires. That and a C02 extinguisher. I set my '76 Trans Am's interior on fire once, and it did not want to go out. Tried a powder extinguisher, but it kept smouldering and then re-ignited about 20 minutes later. Only way I got it out finally was to cut out the sound deadening and chuck it out of the car.

Kiwi, Are you doing this to stiffen the ride? What was the status of the original frame as I think I seen one of yours or Uncle Tony’s with a 68 Mustang with a rotted frame that was muddled up.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 5 күн бұрын
Yes, to stiffen the frame as the Stroker FE motor is making over 600hp..... this car is a very solid car, not the one you're thinking of.

Is there any issue with welding them in on a lift? I had always been told subframe connectors are supposed to be installed with the weight of the car on the wheels.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ай бұрын
I use Jack stands under the front and rear of the car when it's on the lift to stop the sag that you get. That's a good point though, I probably should of mentioned/showed that 😎👍

In a lower-powered application, say 300 hp….will the connectors make a noticeable difference?
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ай бұрын
Connectors also improve the way the car handles through the turns. That aspect is not affected by the HP. The other thing they do is to contain torsional loads on hard launches, 300hp is not going to generate a lot of "twist" in the car. If you have 600hp you get a double pay off, control of twist and the improvement in cornering.
