Had a fully built rear diff come off the stand and land directly on my big toe. Of course I wasn't wearing work boots with any protection. My toe was swollen for a few weeks. Lost my toenail for awhile. Now it's grown back all thick and wierd shaped. I'm just glad it didn't break my toe or worse. Needless to say, as soon as I saw it come off the stand, my toe hurt😊

Nice. A few years ago I started measuring various rear ends to suit my Capri. I found that an XB (XA-EL width) diff was the perfect candidate. Why? Because I had the housing narrowed 93mm per side which allowed the short axle to fit perfectly as the new long axle and got the former long axle shortened 186mm. One cut and respline saved me a fair few $$$ and the rear end was the perfect width.

Would prefer an older rear axle like an 8 or 9 inch Ford, but it's nice there is newer substitute for those older units that are getting harder and more expensive to find. The 8.8 will certainly find itself under a lot of cars for yrs to come! 😎

Nice! I've done something similar for my Samurai ; I took a Sidekick rear axle , cut the passenger side about 2" so I could use 2 driver's side axle(1 spare to carry in the tub), and lessen the Driveshaft angle from the t-case output, that comes out on the passenger side! I bored the flange off the remaining tube, and slide it on the housing, welded back in, and got a nice sturdier rear unit for the compact rig !
