He should take a old crank balancer bolt, weld it some place out of the way on the vise. Then each time just thread crank onto the bolt and it won’t move all around instead of clamping it in the vise.

Amazing clean work. Coul you made some videos of how to measure with those micrometers and bore gauge dial ? Thank you
@ericnickel32805 жыл бұрын
One question and one comment. Why measure rods without the bearing shells? To check for round? Maybe he didn't film it but seems like you would measure the rods w bearings installed to check clearance between rod and rod journal. When honing a cyl, I've always wondered why the oil used in the honing process isn't warmed up to the coolant operating temp. Using a torque plate is essential but the cyl is being honed when its 'cold'. Won't the cyl dimension/shape change when at operating temp?
@pclife56035 жыл бұрын
I also would like to know how he got the clearance measurement without the bearing. I don't think the honing with warm oil would make a difference, Expansion would be minimal and equal. Shape change would be an issue if he didn't use a torque plate. I just finish my build and regret not honing the crank journal.
@mtb_landin5 жыл бұрын
Ohhh the attention to details and correct measurements.. I love it.. Makes my old mechanics heart pump an extra beat.. How much would it cost to have you overhaul a subaru impreza wrx engine? It's a running engine that just needs that new engine feel.. Your videos are amazing btw.. :)

God damn this has to be the most scientific engine build ever. Aside from the additional boring done to the cylinders, if all other parts are new, they should be to spec. But then again checking down to the smallest decimal in sure has its benefits

Or are you doing some super custom application? I’m honestly curious to make my builds better. I’m no master tech or anything.

Quick q: If you buy components (rods, block, head etc) brand new, is it safe to assume they're up to spec and the measurement via micrometer or caliper is unnecessary? Mostly to just double check (plus in this video they're reusing some stuff, like block and hea, so have to make sure the stuff is in tolerance)?

Hi! I have a 2006 Forester 2.0X 158 HP and cannot find the fuel filter. Usually where the filter is in the engine bay, in mine there is the secondary air pump. I cannot find it in the engine bay and as the filter looks it's not in the gas tank either. I have seen exploded drawings about it but can't locate the filter. Can you help me? Thanks!

I am no specialist but I changed my 2 fuel filters in a 06 Legacy GT and a 05 STi Both of them in the gas tank. In the forester it should also be there! A bit of a pain to change it but very doable.
