Have you made them on a regular finish notebook not on textured ?
@stacyodesigns2 жыл бұрын
The textured/ glitter notebooks work because glitter is made from polyester -which can take sub ink. Regular notebooks are more of a cardstock and will not take sub ink.

Is there only certain types of notebook material we can sublimate?
@stacyodesigns3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Some distributors sell sub ready notebooks -like JDS or Conde. The ones in the video are notebooks are from Dollar Tree, but I have also found similar ones in Target. Once in a while you find that gem you can pick up locally. Sublimation only works on polyester, and glitter is made of polyester. These notebooks are covered in glitter = sublimatable.

How do you know what type of notebook from the dollar store will work? What does the material have to be like on the cover? Thank you
@stacyodesigns4 жыл бұрын
In the sublimation community, we like to try different substrates all the time - and once in a while we find a material that is made of polyester -that we didn't know. Such as sequins, glitter, some gift boxes... So this video was inspired by the glitter theory, and I happen to also see some holographic at the store, so I tried both. However, i believe the glitter notebooks are available on their website, but only available in stores during 'Back to School' time. The glitter notebooks are rough to to the touch. Literally glittered on top.

Is your Epson 7720 a sublimation printer or did you have to convert it
@stacyodesigns4 жыл бұрын
The 7720 does not come as a sublimation printer out of the box. I purchased mine from Epson and converted it. "Converting" just entails putting in the sublimation ink and cartridges. However, this will void the Epson warranty. When I converted, I did 1 test print with the ink it came with, just to make sure there were no functionality problems with the printer itself.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Can I just use my Cricut iron Easy Press instead of buying a heat press? Thanks again for a great video.
@stacyodesigns4 жыл бұрын
I would say yes, in theory. Sublimation requires both heat and PRESSURE. You would have to press down with all of your force. I do not have one or have experience with one, but I have heard of people using it. But try it! This is an art, not a science. If it works for you, go for it!

How do you keep the notebooks from melting at that temperature? I thought 360 was too hot
@stacyodesigns5 жыл бұрын
360 would be too hot for vinyl, but the sublimation ink will not be activated below about 360. (also, I notice my heat press runs a little hot) Once the high heat interacts with the ink, it turns into a gas that then absorbs into the substrate. I've seen other people press these notebooks at 400 degrees F. 360 is what works for me and my heat press. If you look on some of the websites that offer sublimation ready items, most will provide time and temperature recommendations. (all close to that 400 degree F mark)
@eddiearmstrong80115 жыл бұрын
I have tried different coating with no luck and 360 would melt but I seen on another video that 200 for 65 works. Haven’t tried acrylic yet so I hope this is a solution
@stacyodesigns5 жыл бұрын
@@eddiearmstrong8011 These notebooks are not specifically made for sublimation - but they work. Not all notebooks do. These are the holographic and glitter notebooks from the Dollar Tree Store. Most notebooks have a plastic coating on the backside of the cover -these don't - that's why they work.
@CarolReidCA5 жыл бұрын
Just be sure you don't get notebooks with plastic covers or plastic binding and you should be OK. Be careful when you remove the notebooks from the hot press or iron. A potholder or just grabbing by the paper is OK, as long as the paper isn't too hot. Paper burns about 451°F, so keep the temperature to transfer around 375°F and you should be OK. Just don't grab the metal bindings when they are hot, as it can brand you!

@vagabonddeesadventures84915 жыл бұрын
Beej if you purchase glitter card stock you can heat press it or run it through your inkjet printer. Then you would need to punch out holes and replace the original cover.

You would be able to use your inkjet printer if you printed on cardstock and punched holes to create you own book. But this process is specifically done with sublimation paper.
