Thanks for the tutorial, I typically will paint the backs first with acrylic gold or silver paint, seal it with polyacrylic spray or liquid polyurethane.

You could use a paint pen on the back, or even a stain pen. Sharpies dry out quickly when you use them on wood.

The Polycrylic allows the wood to take on the design. Sublimation works best on polyester. This adds a surface that is similar to polyester to the wood.
