What part is frustrating? No..you don't have to buy new cartridges to install chipless Firmware.

Hey, did the 802/812 cartridges fit the 440? I have a 446 with the same 288xl cartridge. It says the 802/812 is for the workforce series. But they do fit the xp 440 right?

Have you pressed the image? Sublimation Ink looks different before it's pressed.

can I reuse the original cartridges if they’re empty to be filled with sublimation ink

You may be able to drill a hole into an old Cartridge for filling... It might be more trouble than it's worth. You can get a whole set of refillable Cartridges for less than $30. You would need a chip resetter for the original Epson Cartridges or chipless firmware. The easiest and cheapest would be to install chipless firmware.

Yes. The cartridges are petty small so a CISS would be ideal if you are planning to keep it in one spot.
