Well, our tastes would be different. My TOP 5. # 5 ST "Romeo and Juliet" (1968) # 4 ST "Oliver Twist" (1968) # 3 "Disco Mickey Mouse" (1979) # 2 "Cats" (1983) Before the winner, some HONORABLE MENTIONS that didn't quite make the list. # 5 "Men of the Mall" (1959) (Marching Band) # 4 JUDY COLLINS "Recollections" (1972) # 3 MONKEES "Best Of" (1976) # 2 RITA COOLIDGE "Love Me Again" (1978) # 1 ST "Arthur" (1981) BEST VINYL LP EVER ST "Saturday Night Fever" (1977)

A lot of overlap with my collection - so glad you showed Spirit’s “12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus” - a classic! Also I just picked up an OG mono of Procol Harum. I will look for Peter Green and Ten Years After. Also there was a 2024 reissue of Neil Young’s Zuma that includes extras called Dume that is clean and good sounding.

Great selections! Each person should have different selections as their essentials. There were too many great albums released back in the day! But there were fantastic ones in your list. My favorite Sabbath album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, I think most would pick earlier ones, but as you said, they all sound great! I hope you got the Allman Brothers “Eat a Peach”! I guess you could do a part two, and a part three. Jimi Hendrix’s “Electric Ladyland” and other selections are probably screaming from your record shelves as well. What about essential albums that are a bitch to get? Too rare for the budget, but so God Dam Good!

Oddly enough, I never see any of those early Bee Gees albums in the wild. I wouldn't mind getting a fuzzy original of Odessa if I could find it.

I love Odessa. Don’t know why I dident mentioned it. I have two fuzzy copies I think. One box and one gatefold. Great record.

I added some VERY essential records to my collection last year. A few Rudimentary Peni records from the U.K., the Marilyn Manson Mechanical Animals (O.G. Press), the 3-Teeth new album autographed by all the band members, and an OG copy of Corrosion of Conformity's Animosity LP.
@SublimMedia11 күн бұрын
That is quite the pile. Congratz man!! I had a OG of Marilyn Manson Mechanical Animals. One of the records i havve sold that i regret. Not a huge fan but i think that record is a dark post metal masterpiece!

Good to hear a shout out for The Bee Gees. I think too many people can't separate this phase of their existence from their massive success as disco gods. 1st is wonderful psychedelic pop with that dreamy 60s sound. They definitely need to be considered as up there with the very best as regards the psychedelic pop canon. The songwriting here is fantastic.

A nice intro-collection. You did not mention that there are 3 versions of "Then Play On". The USA edition omits 2 of the 14 UK originals . The later European version changes yet another 2 tracks for "Oh Well" after it became a hit. This is the commonest version worldwide. The original UK obviously most collectible with the rarer 4 original cuts. I have a US MONO stock copy of the first Procol Harum album. Collectible but not recommended. The mix is dense with (obviously) no instrument separation. Does any proggy -psychy album (not garage) need a mono version? I agree that "Hard Road" is the best Blues Breakers album. As you like this Peter Green version, of the BBs, it is strongly recommended that you track down a copy of John's only 60's EP "All my life +3" from 1967 with Paul Butterfield. It is awesome and not too expensive. Also the German compilation "So Many Roads" which has some 7 Peter Green tracks including the 2 that are non-LP.
@SublimMedia11 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for the tips on Green. I’ll check them all out. I have been on a huge Green kick lately. I have that other version with Oh well to. I did three takes on this video before I was satisfied and I think I mentioned the other version in that but forgot. Did not know of a third version!! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Yes agree 100%. This was me doing a video on some records I swapped in my collection so the title of the video came after the recording of it. 😀 But it seemed to be a popular topic so I think I’ll do a follow up and really dig out pure essentials.

Almost all the records are first class, but I have never found anything nice on Dr. Sardonicus. My own German edition of Zuma plays excellently (unknown year of publication REP 54 057). My favs: Harvest & Super Session.

Odessa is one that I have had for ages. I love it. Have to revisit it soon. I remember I got Trafalgar probably 10+ years ago at a fair. Was so stoked when I got home but the first side had a big scratch so never played it and I think it’s still in my collection 🤣🤣 Need a new one!

Crusade is my favorite Bluesbreakers album Mick Taylor shows what a brilliant guitarist he was, and it also have Keef Hartley on drums. For some reason this record seldom gets a mention, it's always the Clapton and Greene ones...this needs to end, Crusade is awesome 🎸🎸

@@SublimMedia Please do, most people disagree with it being the best Bluesbreaker album..but that is their problem 🙂. Also if you're not pleased with the sound on German Neil Young pressings, i have most of the 70s NY albums in UK pressings and am as far as i can remember pleased with the sound on all of them. All the Procol Harum albums with Robin Trower is well worth owning, after he left not so much..:-)
