Not really excellent it seems like dw making a narrative that the government isn’t doing anything. First is that northern Java was made by sediments from the mountainous south, and constantly changing, hundreds years ago there is another island up north called Muria which merged with Java. It would also merged with Madura if the Dutch did not diverted Bengawan Solo, you could see this in google earth. Because of this nature it is succeptible to erosion which played a bigger role especially in regions around Pekalongan rather than the ground water extraction. Another not highlighted fact is failed water privatisation pushed by IMF after 1998, that explain why the pipe water isnt being built for these communities as it is not profitable and the have to rely on ground water. It certainly exacerbate the condition. Actually some of the dykes and levees were already built around Pekalongan and other northern java, looking similar like in the netherlands although face resistant from environmentalist somehow. Another was the effort to encourage natural sendimentation, those square ponds surrounded by mangroves trees, slightly shot in the video is actually to encourage natural sedimentation and forming new land. It is not a proof the ground is sinking it is an effort to combat it. It is formed by nets or bamboo for sediment capture. After some years where enough sediments were formed, mangroves are planted above it. After a while the square ponds filled up and mangroves are planted, new land is formed. It is called Guludan you can check it online.
@abcddef21123 жыл бұрын
No it is erosion which is the major cause. Those shots of square looking ponds is actually an effort to increase natural sedimentation and to create new land not the effect of subsidence. Built by netting or bamboo, it will eventually fill up from the edge which then planted with mangroves. After a while the pond filled up and fill with mangroves. It is called Guludan you can read about it.

Java's population is too dense. Imagine 150 million people live in one island. There is no enough space for people to live comfortably. The population growth in this island is really fast. If i could i would have already moved to another island such as borneo, sumatera, or papua but most of us don't have enough resources to begin a new life in a new place.

I visited Java a few times in the 1980's from Jakarta to central province. Some towns/cities along the northern coastline are sinking mainly due to depletion of underground water. It will be a gargantuan task to resettle the mass of people affected. Compounded by gradual rising sea level, large area of Jakarta will be under water in no time. Thus, new capital city being built in Kalimantan has to be expedited..

Islands sink, islands grow. It's called plate-tectonics. Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sumba, Flores, Timor) lies on a subduction zone of the Indian plate. That's why you have so many volcanoes. This means those islands are very tectonically active. They will sink and grow relatively quickly, maybe even faster than due to subsidence or global warming.

😂😂😂 another DW hit piece on Indonesia. Germany is certainly mad that Indonesia ban it's raw mineral export to for German industry 😂😂😂. Sorry Germany, what ever negative news about Indonesia you churn out it will not stop Indonesia from developing and use it's own resources for its own prosperity instead of selling it raw to countries like Germany. PS: my family lives in Pekalongan and this problem is currently being tackle by both the central and local government 😊😇🙏.

@krustenkaese39053 жыл бұрын
It is really sad to see that you are so subsceptible to conspiracy-theories and that you think this report has anything to do with the export ban. This report is just one of many thousands that report about negative and positive things all over the world. Each time there is report about a thing that can be interpreted as bad there are some people from that country - usually hardline nationalists (idk if that applies to you) - that misinterpret it as an coordinated attack on their country and a conspiracy against their people. The freedom of press in Germany is very high compared to others countries so you may be overwhelmed by all the honest reporting that doesn't has any consideration for the feelings of people, since they are obliged to paint an accurate picture of what is going on. Indonesian miners also made profits when selling the minerals in raw form to other countries but now in the future they may not be making more profit by selling to Indonesians but atleast in theory it still is better for the country as a whole. But the way it was before that wasn't bad for them either and of course at the moment the German industry is constantly making new profit records so it is not seen as a problem here and almost nobody in Germany knows about the export ban anyway. So i just hope i could make it a bit easier for you to understand why this kind of reporting is not there to make your country look bad but in fact it's just a result of the culture of journalism that is present in Germany and many other countries around the world.

Yea that sounds like a US 'could have' in Kabul. Or Yes we can but ... No we didn't. More then ironic but you invoked the Dutch on this. Dutch minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen presented the draft version of the 1400 page Dutch-Indonesian National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) master plan in Jakarta on April 2. First thing Indonesia did was ask the Dutch for help. Plans in place, boots on the ground and projects starting construction. Ofcourse they are aware of their past with Indonesia so they called it the 'Master Plan'. Business is booming for the Dutch.
