Player's movement is normalized (clipped diagonally) but the PRAWN Powersuit moves quite noticeably faster at such angle. This suggests one of 3 things: 1) It was a known bug in the early days of Subnautica development that was intentionally left in. 2) It was always an intended feature of the PRAWN Suit and possibly a reference to many shellfish being better at moving backwards or sideways. 3) It's an in-universe bug in Alterra code that limits the linear velocity of the PRAWN suit for... some weird corporate reasons like attempting to skew the classification of the PRAWN Suit in order to avoid taxation as a utility vehicle.
