Hi everyone, in this video I’m exploring the amazing city of Subotica. I highly recommend you check it out if you’re in the Vojvodina region / Northern Serbia. It’s a short drive away from Novi Sad which I covered in last week’s video. Well worth the trip! Have a great weekend!

Why don't tell real name of that serbian city... SUBOTICA this is not Hungarian is this something want to tell you...like NATO bombing Serbia and trying to give Kosovo part of Serbia to Albania...

@@vesnans4919 what's your problem? Subotica is as Serbian, as Novi Sad is. Not too much. No matter, which Nation is the majority now. When I had to leave Subotica, Serbs made up less than 15% of the population. In 1991. Please stop this stupidity

From its time as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Subotica - like a great many cities in the region - has a multi-cultural past and hence multiple names, depending on the language being used. Subotica is the name of the city in Serbian, but its name in Hungarian is Szabadka (still commonly used by Hungarian-speakers) and, interestingly, Maria-Theresiopel in German (now of historic interest and not commonly used by German-speakers). Thank you for this glimpse of a city that is a bit 'off the beaten track'.

Beautiful, Hungarian art-nouveau architecture is just something else...How would you rate this town with other towns in Hungary (e.g. Szegedin). Which one do you prefer?
@januslog Жыл бұрын
It’s an interesting question. The twin has definitely lots of Hungarian references, given history and proximity to today’s Hungary. But daily life, markets and people are of course Serbian now. It’s an eclectic mix. I’d visit both - and I have 😊

Not just Hungarian references but all of these buildings minus the Cathedral were made by Hungarian architects like Skultéty János, Komor Marcell, Jakab Dezső, Raichle J. Ferenc or Magyar Ede. They made many masterpieces in other Hungarian cities and also lived in Szeged. Even that fountain is made out of Hungarian Zsolnay porcellain from Pécs. And one third of Szabadka's population is still Hungarian after 124 years. @@januslog
