I am so glad someone is talking about this. It's such a huge issue. I'm going back to physical media I can get from the library or thrift shops. I'm tired of not owning anything and I'm tired of paying for subscriptions. Thank you for talking about this! It's crazy how normalized this has become.

I literally dont have any subscriptions (other than my phone plan). No netflix, no amazon prime, no spotify, no meal prep, no hulu, no apple tv, no after pay, no nothing... I save so much money because of that

The one that’s crazy to me are subscriptions to manage your finances. So you’re going to pay $5/month just to have to still manage your own finances and give some tech company access to all your financial information. It’s insane

Watched this last night. Was so inspired that today I delved into some administrative housekeeping, and so far I've cancelled subscriptions to the tune of €562 a year. I suspect the final amount will be closer to €1000. Thank you for the nudge! 😊

It's a game changer when you calculate the yearly amounts of any subscriptions😊. Good job on saving so much money❤. I only felt empowered to take a serious look at my finances & make changes since 2020. It's so rewarding & motivating to make an overview of how much I saved🤗

I was shocked when I saw the charge for my Amazon Prime renewal was $139, but I didn't do anything at the time. You reminded me about that shock and I just cancelled my subscription. Will be getting $104 refunded. 🙂

I canceled Amazon prime since it honestly doesn’t offer much. Amazon still has free shipping on $25 or larger orders. Prime video is subpar. The kindle perks are terrible. You essentially get nothing for prime. Even the Whole Foods discounts are crap. Amazon said I saved $89 with prime last year but I doubt my fee was in that equation. So I lost $30 with Amazon prime. Never going back. Plus I hate Amazon

Years ago I saw a guy talking about how subscribing your future was the next big thing. I thought, "that is literally the dumbest thing I have ever heard" and knew right then that subscriptions were going to be the new internet scam trend.

I have been watching your saving money videos. I have Netflix and was thinking of cancelling it. While I was negotiating with my cell company for a lower price, I found they had a cheaper rate that included Netflix. So now, I saved $30 on my phone bill and saved another $10 by putting Netflix with my phone service. Luckily, I am not addicted to watching TV. KZbin, maybe.

While I desperately need to manage my expenses better, I did cancel my Netflix years ago because I couldn't find enough stuff to watch on there that could actually hold my interest (besides a couple of my favorite shows). I cancelled it after spending LITERALLY 2 hours on a saturday night trying to find something to watch on there only to end up on KZbin. I did do the thing where I subscribe for one month for one show though (not just with Netflix). Cancelled the subscription right after buying it so I wouldn't forget. So I'm really proud of myself of at least doing something right!

That anecdote at the end made me chuckle. I grew up before cell phones and social media and still never really accomplished anything. Subscriptions just give me more variety in my life because even without them I don’t think anything would change

If you add items to your Amazon cart and leave them for a few days, they "decrease" in price!?! Many times, I actually change my mind and make due with what I already have!

I've done that _Netflix_ one since I started to use the service, (it just made sense for my personal situation)... and whenever they would send that email telling me that they are sorry to see me go, and ask why? -- the first time I wrote something quite profound 😁 and then a couple times after that, I would just send the word *Money.* The entire _system_ we live in is unbalanced, so I have to try and consciously -- as best as possible -- hold onto the little that I have. They may tell you that they care (maybe a few do), but *profits, at any cost* is where the caring lies. These companies are like those "friends" that suddenly pop-up when you have resources. I can probably bet some vital body parts, that most of these Subscription Services most likely don't cancel the fees for a long time, even if you have not used the service for a while (Months). Maybe they'll send an email to ask what's up? 😁 Anyway. *All the best.*

The critique is essentially accurate. Human behavior is the problem and the subscriptions have just exposed this. The same problem recurrs with each iteration of human technology that causes major improvements in living standards. People have been saying what you're saying for centuries and they've been both right for the same reasons i have pointed out. I think your solutions are great and a refreshing take on self improvement. Consumerism has dampened the innovations in psychology that we badly need to adopt to live truly happy lives.

Fantastic video! I love your style. I used Amazon quite a lot when getting settled in a new country since I needed everything all at once, but now I pretty much only use it for my kitty's medicated food, which can't be bought in stores here in Portugal. Thanks to you, I am cancelling my Amazon subscription asap and moving towards getting him on a raw meat diet as soon as I can to eliminate his need for that food and to help his sweet body heal. I've already gotten rid of almost all other subscriptions, except for Spotify, which I love and we share a membership as a family.

Thank you for making this video. I can relate to your ways of thinking. I never signed up for Netflix or other types of streaming services. As well as having internet and cable. I checked out how much I would spend a month, year, times 10 years, The amount in 10 years is CRAZY! It may be ok for others, for me however, it would serve no purpose. I get all my DVD's from the library. Now that we are going into the colder months, that is my time to binge on movies and read more. The money I have saved by checking out MOVIES and BOOKS, whether ebooks or the paper kind at the LIBRARY is just phenomenal! I have learned that when you have an open mind and WANT to LEARN NEW WAYS of DOING THINGS and not let your EGO get in the way of doing so. Your LIFE can change for the BETTER! 😊 I am hoping that those that are viewing your videos will see how living a more simple life with less "STUFF" will help them SAVE MONEY, LESS THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF, LESS LAUNDRY, DISHES AND COOKWARE TO WASH.

THIS. Also a lot of people don’t realize that via apps like Kanopy and Libby, you can check out books/movies digitally that are directly linked to your library. Also Crackle, Tubi, Peacock, and several others (those are my favorite) let you watch movies and shows for absolutely free. Not to mention, of course, KZbin. I can almost always find something interesting here to watch! I’ve used the free trial for Netflix and Hulu and could see myself subscribing then unsubscribing as Nicole described after binge watching content (I really want to see Stranger Things and several others), but one can get so much great content for free. If there’s a movie I really love enough to rewatch over and over, I’ll just buy the DVD or digital movie.

Im about to look at my amazon history, it IS going to be painful. But i do same thing, wait till the cart is over 35 and not buy prime. You, Seve and Austin are my new fav minimalist YTers. I love what u said about the hot bag of ass and self sabotage. As a 4 year minimalist, im grateful for the new perspective that addresses addiction, the human side of the struggle. We needed your smart, straight forward, humorous approach. Love that youre a fellow female, kombucha brewing, skinny jean wearing vegan minimalist asshole.

Ha! Prime will be US$140 in 2023. Honestly, I can't justify this. I live in a city, and I am able to buy most items I need by walking 1/4-1/2 mile. I have a Hungryroot plan, and I plan to cancel this after my next delivery. It's not cost-effective for us. I would rather buy exactly what I need from the local green grocer and/or the local supermarket. Great video!

I keep Netflix because I split it with 3 other people so I'm paying less than $5.50 USD a month. Not bad at all and I mostly use it to watch documentaries so I find it worth it. I think if my friends choose to stop splitting it I would then just give it up completely. But for $5.50 a month I feel perfectly okay with it.

I only have Amazon Prime and Netflix... I think having two subscription services is not bad... 90 % of movies or TV shows that I watch are available on those 2 streaming services... and it actually saves me money, because I don't go to the Theaters to watch movies... Last movie I went to, with popcorn and drink came to $ 35 for one movie. Kinda rediculous
