I think making the materials in a way that can be easily altered is the main purpose of using Designer. Being able to change the look by changing a few parameters is pretty essential I would say.

I was interested in becoming a Patreon member, or buying a course on gum road. Do you have any narrated tutorials? (Subtitles with explanations are fine). So often in non-narrated tutorials I feel like I’m coping but not learning.

Almost all videos are not narrated unfortunately, they are mainly at regular speed with no audio.

i'm trying to learn substance designer and make texture for an eventual portfolio, but i keep having to watch tutorials on some of those textures and cause of that i just can't put them in my portfolio :( i dunno what to do

I think it's fine to make a texture based on a tutorial, but make sure to put your own spin on it. You can also just use the tutorial for reference on how some nodes are used and make your own textures.
