I'd love to see the full tutorial! I am curious how AE handles the geometry now because my experience when working in 3D with AE is a pain, and we use BlenderAE plugin to transfer meshes. Viewport becomes so sluggish just with a few simple meshes. I had to generate proxy meshes for our editor to work on, even then, it was still slow.

I am finding this new implementation to be very good. This scene had an insane amount of geo. The mesh plane was 2.4 million polys and I duplicated it around 50 times to create the terrain. It still had pretty good performance at that point. When I enter Draft 3D mode (no shadow) the performance was great.

What does the render time look like for 3D rendering in AE 2024? If you could provide how long it took to render based on the resolution and total frames rendered that would be great. Ty

It can depend on the scene quality settings. I had a scene take like 38 min but that was before I set the render quality correctly. I had made some mistakes and left all the quality settings to super high values that was totally wasted. The good news is that it can be dialed in to be much faster depending on bounding box for casting shadows. Please check out this video I created recently to showcase the process. That 38 min scene was just a fraction of that time. instagram.com/p/CzouWaKv4SY/

How is your quality so good? Everything i've created using substance ends up looking awful in in Ae.

Let me know what issues you are running into. I am finding the results to be pretty good and I was surprised. Are you using the environment light? That goes a long way to getting nice shadows. Also, you need to set the casting box size for shadows. Please check this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4GynHqIbKqeaKs

The starfield art is definitely inspiring. Thanks for the breakdown! A tutorial, if there's more interest, would be great!
