I just started growing these in my new home here in south Adelaide. They grow really fast and have heaps of melons on them. I have found when they start ripening the birds like to punch a hole in them so I have started to bring them indoors to finish ripenening. Really nice tasting fruit, very unique, tropical taste. Like nothing else I have eaten. I have had a few very large ones, bigger than a rock melon. Thats great news that they produce fruit year round !

Wow, how many Pepino plant is that? how old is the tree? do they need to be in direct sunlight? Love your garden bytheway. I watched all your videos. Great channel 👍

Many plants now, started off 6-7 years ago with only a few. They self propagate and will eventually take over, so cut them back a few times a year. They prefer part shade.

So does the fruit get larger as the plant matures?
@RealLifeFruitopia4 жыл бұрын
Seems that way. Every year they get sweeter and larger. I've been mulching more than ever though.

Nice vid, how far apart can i plant cuttings
@RealLifeFruitopia2 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter as they self propagate, turning into a hedge.

@RealLifeFruitopia5 жыл бұрын
So stick with stone fruit and loquat. My pepino fruits winter to summer, with harvests from spring to autumn. I love the taste, almost identical to cantaloupe, fruit fly can be an issue in summer. Sold and juiced in the markets of central and south america.

@@RealLifeFruitopia 2 late ive already collected half the things you have from seed lol god i wish my greenhouse was as free as yours was, mines full of things that need repotting, aint nobody got that many pots or dirt lol smoking weed made me able to do so much stuff i cant keep up with anymore, partly cause it also made me delusional i think, nothing was fully thought out.. i even wasnt taking b12 and was thinking i was getting enough from playing with soil all the time, dammit man, since 14 years old 2.. cooked it! and ive absolutly lost the plot now that ive quit.. i might aswel be a complete different person now, no interest or will power for anything! all i have is the fear of loosing what i cant get again.. and that if i dont grow my own food ill have to be on supplements forever, thats about the only drive ive got now and its not enough, i went vegan cause it was natural for me as i have a protective personality, but taking b12 is something ill never feel ok about, i no you get injections.. crazy guy :p no1 understands why i hate taking a supplement but i wasnt raised on supplements and that im very proud of and i wouldnt like raising a kid on them either, something about it is so wrong to me and ill never change my opinion on it, so come on science, prove vegans get get b12 naturally 2, we need more studies! till then ill be forcing these stupid things under my tounge and feeling like i dont belong on this earth.. youl never meet some1 so against supplements in your life, rastafarians are probably like me in this way tho, anyway, sorry for the long, im spastic dont mind me

@@RealLifeFruitopia im so bad i havnt even been able to care about getting sun even tho i no i need the vitamin d, and i used to be a sun worshipper, always too much sun on my back in summer never enough on my face it seems lol i can get all different colours at one time, to the point where it looks like a black man with a brown face and white thighs, youve never seen such a pronounced tan line in your life lol thats what you get when your tasmanian aboriginal and your dads a ginger and you live in a temperate climate i guess, bet id have an even tan and id be about as dark as those tropical asians if i went and lived there, i always get really close but then winter comes, why do we live in these cold climates still? i could have so much more abundance im so unsure if i should move, everything i eat.. is from the tropics lol seriously.. but my area has trapped me with its beauty man.. and it being where i was raised, its home and it feels like i could never leave! native roots here and all, damit! i cant even imagine how lost id feel in a different country, the thought of needing to worry about crocodiles would be a whole nother level, nuthin down here is out to eat you like that.. thats some serious shit.. lol

Why is that most reviews say its taste is bland and uninteresting? I like to grow but after watching reviews I lost interest. If they really grow bigger and sweeter the older they get I want to plant. I had a plant before but died before bearing fruits due to aphids. The pests are the same as tomato or egg plant pests.
