EXACTLY!!! 😂 I went from the shell on my truck box to Roof Top tents, to now I have. Rayzr FK slide in truck camper for one person. We do a lot of guy fishing trips and everyone is self sufficient with most preferring the room of their tents and a screened in room set up. A couple of guys have teardrops not unlike in this video, but most have been homebuilt with independent off-road suspensions MacGyvered underneath. My dog and I are warm and happy with the slide in camper, we don’t go too extreme and the F150 Tremor handles the set up perfectly. My other vehicle we take when my wife comes along is a converted Mercedes 4x4 van. It’s very comfortable, has more power (120 volt) than needed with 400 AH of LiFePO4 batteries and 600 watts of solar. It powers a 2,000 watt inverter that even has enough power to run the A/C for up to 10 hours without starting the vehicle or included 2.5Kw Onan generator. It’s truly luxurious and surprisingly capable off-road with a set of BFG KO2s on it. They are decently tall from the factory, but if wanted (my wife says H*LL NO) they are easily lifted with high quality kits out there. I am fortunate and can afford these comforts, but it’s really stupid how much $$$ is tied up in both rigs. I find driving the van is really easy and often will use it as my daily driver.

I would have voted for the Escalade too. I own an 03 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.0 which is the Escalade's much better looking sister and when it comes to towing it's got the power, comfort is got awesome suspension, MPG it drinks gas like crazy... Ok that last one is a down side, but it's still a nice well built truck and I love it.

I have to say the Escalade did not skip a beat other than the fact that it’s low It looked like a natural out there on the sand, very impressed by that, With a 3 inch lift and A/T 33 s plus a g80 locker would totally kick ass and look good at it too.

Sort of an anticlimactic end to the series. I'm currently working on updates for a Suburban to use it for overlanding / camping and was hoping for some additional ideas (bike/kayak racks, cooking options, sanitation, roof top shower system, pop-up / tent / awning, interior storage / organization, etc.) for my own build. This ended up being a let down as the focus was really just on buying some old trucks, not on how to modify them for overlanding use on a budget. Instead, the actual "overlanding" modifications were to buy a few cheap camping items from Walmart and call it a day. The only mods were to replace the tires.
@trailrunnah88862 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really enjoyed the series, but it could have been better if they had done actual mods to them. As far as your suburban, sounds like an awesome project. Have you checked out any of the Sub Overland videos? They do some cool stuff with burbs.
@EBuff752 жыл бұрын
@@trailrunnah8886 Yes, I've watched a number of their videos, along with many other "van life" videos for inspiration. Mine isn't a permanent build, as I use the truck for other things too. So all of my "modifications" are reversible, or are just something that I can take in/out as needed.

Agreed, I was majorly disappointed because I wanted to learn some tips for my rig. I have the same Suburban (99) as in the video 4" lift, maxxis razr 33" tires cheap roof rack. Cheapest most modular "mod" is a sized sheet of 1/2" plywood (driver side with the second row down) on top of 4x walmart 38L tubs (1x tools, 1x food, 1x gear, 1x kitchen). plywood serves as the bed and/or seat... sleep on top w/ foam or 1-2 sleeping bags as a pad (I tried the same cot and it sucks). when not camping plywood flat on the floor. Second option w/cooler is match the height of the cooler w/ tubs 1x tools, 1x kitchen etc. Cheap extended roof rack for everything else... I mounted the spare up top for more room. Run inverter and Ryobi batteries fan for air, tools etc. My main issue to date is covering the windows for privacy, may fit foam sheet insulation. Small grill and basic pot/pan cook. For pee pee poo poo 5 gal luggable loo. Shower = bucket water mild soap wipes or camp ground facility. Super contained rig. Last prob is no way to open the back barn doors from the inside so you have to exit from the front... also run a hitch mount hinged bike rack (4 bikes). Feedback? -Bill

@trailrunnah88862 жыл бұрын
@@ianberry5562 yeah, I guess at the time AWD was thought to be more "premium" and luxurious. The Denali of that generation didn't have low range either, but the Tahoe/Yukons did. So considering how much they like the Escalade, I think a Tahoe Z71 would have been a great pick. It had the smaller 5.3 liter, but it was loaded with most of the options that the Cadillac would have had, however, it has low range and more skid plates.
@MultiPurposeReviewer2 жыл бұрын
I actually really liked Tommy's offhand idea about the future series "Go Small." It may have just been kidding, but with the current gas prices, that would be a cool series to watch. The 3 guys compete to find the best/smallest/most affordable/most efficient vehicle that will have the highest range and fuel efficiency. EVs maybe aren't allowed, since they're still somewhat expensive and only a small percentage of cars on the road. But anything else goes, whether it's hybrid or not, got start/stop, wheel skirts, a tiny body (like a smart), whatever else. Basically the opposite of this series.

Most people don't hardcore off road much, so probably the Cadillac is the best for most people, but the most practical and useable is the Suburban. The Ford Excursion is very cool but so big, again The suburban size is more practical, but the Ford is very well made, just wish it didn't have the V10 spark plug issues. This version was actually funny my daily driver in late 99-03 was a 1978 Chevy c20 custom deluxe long bed 350 vin m 4bbl quadrajet th400 turbo automatic transmission B&M 11,000 5/8 tubes transmission cooler,, standard manual windows and straight steering column and heavy duty heater with the three spd blower fan, factory 2 inch taller spring height. And 31/10.50/16 BFG all terrain tires over 432k miles several engine rebuilds but ironically the factory engine block same vin as the truck!!! I drove through fields with it,snow,mudded with it and also used it to haul firewood and the scrap metal hauler...

Roman: "See you next time, from Moab, for all of us, ciao." What I heard: "...And on that bombshell, it's time to end. Thank you so much for watching, Goodnight!" *cue Jessica by The Allman Brothers*

"I can't put the thing inflated on camera," best line of the series.

Little 4x4 trucks in the Sand Hills on the Halsey Nebraska National Forest’s basically ATV trails would be fun and a change from Moab and mountains.

Next series needs to be budget rally racers (subaru, Mitsubishi, etc.)

I'd take any of these three vehicles, honestly. They all have their good and bad features. Excellent series -- really enjoyed it!

I'm not a Ford guy....but always liked the idea and look of the expedition. Dont know how reliable they are and didnt know they made a v10 version. But they are just awesome looking even stock, they are huge! But with a little lift and huge tires, it's like a monster truck!
