We have a feral colony of this Aloe on our semi-rural property in far south Austin that survived the Texas Icepocalypse. Hundreds of little aloes and a handful of bigger ones. It is a tough species

Succulents are very resilient. However I understand the shock from the Texas freeze. I just moved all my aloes into the garage when we got the first frost this past weekend. Works if in pots but have a few that are in the ground. Cover and protect.

Loved this video! So thrilled to see your very special aloe pulled through, Andrea! People may think, _"Oh they're only plants!"_ but they are precious, living beings and it is heartbreaking when we lose any of them.. especially the ones that are so sentimental to us! Thank you for this lovely upload 💕🌵

PS) Even after our crazy, baking hot dry summer here in Italy, my lithops are just coming into flower.. in mid November. I didn't think they would do so this year but (thanks to YOU) I am understanding their needs more now.. 🤗

Andrea....I just tried to join your fb page. So busy the last 2 months - beheading, pruning, replanting, repotting, propagating, creating those succs rockereies. But I have a super -important question ....when beheading, put them in soil and keep dry, or let them air root over an empty container....? I wish you you were on-air.....!
@SucsForYou3 жыл бұрын
I like to start w/ an empty container then move to soil after a couple weeks

I found a Soap Aloe dead at a local plant sale for $7. I bought it to try to bring it back to life. It was limp and brown, starting to turn black in sections. The pot was dripping water and the soil was completely saturated. The "Master gardener" said it was dying from being underwatered lol. I took it home, repotted it in some sandy soil and didn't water it for about two maybe even three months. The plant made a full recovery and is now enormous and thriving. I thought it was a Candelabra (Krantz) Aloe for months before it started to resemble the Maculata Aloe that it actually is.

Great rescue story! I hope it flowers for you soon - this old gal has flowered several times since the freeze, such a treat!

Sorry for the late reply! The shirt is from Target and the names aren't all correct lol! You can find Lithops at local nurseries/big box stores - but maybe not year-round.

@@SucsForYou I do have a Split Rock right now that the leaves have not cracked yet but the old leaves are still attached. They look like they are dying (the old leaves) but they are not shrinking. I'm wondering if it is ok to just pluck them off since the new leaves have not cracked open yet. What do you think?
