That turned out pretty nice. You might end up having problems down the road though because it looks like you didn’t use the same type of steel for the bottom plate. When two different types of metal touch they will have a corrosion problem. But I could be wrong I’m not an expert.

You a very good welder, it is quite an ambitious welding project for someone that is not a welder by trade!! Why would you want less oil in your engine? are you concerned about this at all? will you replace the volume somewhere else?

Doug try running a bead instead of spot welding it creates seams not holes even if have to turn amp down to avoid blowing hole and moved slower

the engine oil is going to heat up the paint, hot paint and oil will mix creating vapors wich will enter the combustion chambers, the vapors will mix with the air fuel mixture chemically boosting your engine!

If you have to do this again, due to a leak you discover during pressurization, I recommend (as others have) placing the drain plug in the "O" of fuck off. I think placing the drain plug there will give you better draining of your oil and contaminants. Also, use a magnetic plug for extra safety. A TIG may be in your future.

There's a better product for this at the autoparts store, it would have saved your first one. It's called Red-Kote, you'd clean the oil pan, pour the product in the pan, rotate it around to coat the inside then poor it out rotating it to cover the lip, then take you plug out when it starts to tack and let cure. All pin holes will be sealed and you'll have a polymer coating on the inside of the pan. Total cost around $20 + whatever you spend on cleaning supplies and gaskets and it will last forever.
