I usually us 2 or sometimes 3 of the 12x18x39 swim through beaver cage traps. At times you can feel for a slight "dish" in the bottom with your feet to locate where the traps should go. This type of setting has proven itself with no less than a dozen recent catches, working well at each and every location I tried it. The success rate has surprisingly been right at 100%, which was amazing. I will do a little directing with branches stuck in the dam at times, but not always. I'm finding that it may actually be better without a diver log. The first time I saw it work was when I explained the standard dam break set and the trapper didn't understand and so he just put a trap out front of a huge hole in the dam and had a beaver in a bare trap set about 6 feet from the hole. It works great in culverts where the water is deep and the dam is in the center of a 4 to 6 foot diameter culvert. The first time I did it in a culvert the water was over my hip boots so I just dropped the cages in front. Next day had them both.

Interesting, I have tried this many times with my cages and without a dive log of some sort I have never had success
