Beaver chews through tree limb: close up footage: See how beavers do it!

I was in the right place at the right time to film this wild beaver chewing a chunk off of a fallen tree trunk. I tried to get in very close to provide a real up-close look at how they do this.

They basically are; right down to being made of metal! Beavers teeth are reinforced with high levels of iron, which gives them that characteristic orange coating. On top of that, the iron coating is actually uneven: thicker on the outside edge and thinner on the inside. Because of this, as they chew, their teeth file down unevenly, forming a sharp chisel shape So they essentially have self sharpening iron chisels for teeth! More fun facts: like all rodents, their lips can seal behind their exposed teeth, so they can chew without getting anything in their mouths.

The sounds of those razor sharp teeth through wood is so relaxing. There are many beavers where I live and I never stop being impressed by their tree felling skills. They just about always gets the tree to fall where they want it to, and that is some serious skill doing that with your teeth. I´ve seen pretty massive trees downed by beavers, and they all fell right into the lake or stream.
