I'm glad I watched this episode. I have spent a lot of time on Florida beaches. I got a weak tinny signal one day and almost walked away from it. But I didn't. About 16inches down there was a small gold (18 k.) ear ring. I will never forget the sound of that signal. Thamk you for that.

A good pair of headphones is a must ! Every nugget I dig has a faint sound and my buddy has the same detector that I use and has been with me at every dig...... and he hasn't found a nugget...... I gave him a faint target so he could loose his virginity...... and he dug the hole and told me there is nothing there ....... I went back and scanned and said do you hear that ? He said no it sounds like nothing ....... I got down on my knees and pulled out a (2) gram nugget that was 8" inches deep ..... That's why the faint sound ....... He still hasn't found his first nugget ......

Enjoyed the video Chris, thanks for sharing it. It seems to me as though the last couple of videos you've done on metal detecting might have been better had you been using a detector that utilizes a threshold instead of a silent machine like the GM 1000. Using the threshold to it's full advantage is a useful skill I believe.
@ChrisRalph5 жыл бұрын
I agree to a point. It is better to have a threshold that can be heard - I wish they would have designed the GM1000 that way. On the other hand, the GM 1000 with the 5 inch coil is incredibly sensitive. Honestly, in my opinion its as sensitive as the Gold Bug 2 with the small coil. I recently went over a small area searched by an experienced operator with the Gold Bug 2 and found a number of small targets, more than half of which were gold.
@watermain485 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRalph I had the GM 1000 for a while and sold it recently. I don't think it was any better on small gold that my Whites 24k machine, which also came with two coils and has a threshold. Thanks again Chris, I'm enjoying the series and your book.

This black stone has so much gold and silver and diamond type reflection and I am trying to figure out what exactly I have here because it's blowing my mind half the time but again I don't know for sure yet. Even if the signal is weak should it be repeatable swinging in both directions? For example I've run into signals that will sound off repeatedly swing right. But swing left doesn't offer a signal.

Tur down the gain until it quiets down some. You will need to determine this for yourself as its different in different soils and for different people's hearing.

My new Goldbug pro gives off tons of false reads. I found my connection was really loose , so fixed that , still its doing about the same. Im going through all your vids on detecting when I can, loved your set up vid on fisher goldpro set up. Well my question is should I set " gain " on a very low setting , say 9 o'clock?. I am running all metal as you suggested. Another question you said in left bar area anything above 3 bars you usually pass up on , do I need to look at the middle upper arch as well before I dig. As I type you are awnsering some of my questions : )

Did you read my other responses to you? Yes there is gold on the upper Merced in Mariposa Co. Take my suggestion, and join at least one prospecting club. Do some google searching for prospecting clubs in CA - there will be some near you. Google "gold districts of California bulletin 193 download" and download the free book and read it. It describes all the gold districts of California. Lots to learn.

@@ChrisRalph He does mate over and over. A story of answered prayer. Last March we went to the Victorian gold field and I left one box home. In it contained a wet weather coat, other stuff and my "test gold pieces" that ineed to get my ear back in. Id been there for a couple of weeks without results so I prayed "God I really need a test piece. Just let me find a little bit". A couple of days later, out driving in the Dunolly forest, I came across a guy walking down a road, detector in hand, head down, a truly sorry sight. I pulled up. Mate that really is a sorry sight. Whats up?. Im lost he said. I have no idea where i am. I loaded his detector into the ute, him in the passenger seat and I started to quiz him. Have you any idea where you left the car? I followed my mates in today in a ball of dust so Ive no idea where they are. Did you see any signs on the way in. Just one he said. Thorpe Track. Ok lets start there, I said and off we went. We found Thorpes track and finally found his mates. After laughs and shyacking I wished them well and went off detecting. A little while later, I saw the guy Id picked up drove off down my road, and I thought he'd had enough and was going back to his van at the park. I went back to detecting and a little while later, that same car pulled up, the guy got out and handed me a pill bottle. He said, its not much, but i was really lost this morning and for your kindness I'd still be wandering around. Thanks very much. He left I opened the pill bottle and into my hand dropped a 0.55g gold nugget. GOD REALLY DOES ANSWER OUR PRAYERS. And he does it using the most unusual ways. Shouldnt surprise us I guess. He used a talking donkey once.

@cowboygeologist77725 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRalph Gold Metal detectors do not have discrimination. Not on my Minelab GPZ-7000, Gold Bug 2 (does have iron but doesn't work well in trashy areas), etc. I have also used my Minelab 3030 which I do have discriminate but they are not true "gold detectors" for nuggets, especially tiny ones in a field of iron bits. Great for gold coins or jewelry though.

@ChrisRalph5 жыл бұрын
@Boneyfreak - The truth is that it takes a lot of patience and work to learn how to find gold and gain the skills necessary to be successful. Many look at the possibility and figure they will get rich quick. Unfortunately they are about 150 years too late. So there will always be the impatient folks who try and give up, then sell their equipment. No need to worry.
