That's been one of her worst qualities thru the whole show (in terms of business), she is bad at lying. Next would be that she is bad at negotiating. This Greg thing happened because she did the same thing as when Roman and Connor asked what do they get for putting names on the publicly trashing Ken letter and she just said that they are babies and didn't negotiate. Then add to that her business knowledge is maybe the worst. She didn't agree to go into Shanghai, even when fast-tracked she left the Waystar most of the times or read magazines because she is lazy and felt entitled and beneith her to learn the basics by Frank teaching her. Even Roman started from the basics and started to build from there. Like sure Shiv might be the smartest but she has way too much to learn and she wants the top position immidiatelly without much work.

Its clear to me that Kendall knew something was up with Shiv so he set her up by asking her to call Nate and see if she'd actually do that. He couldve just called Nate himself and he'd always pick up the phone since they were old pals and used to "run around shanghai together". And that was why he and Roman asked Shiv to invite Nate to the tailgate party and not did it himself and to their 'surprise', Matsson showed up too, conveniently just in time for the party. It takes about 9hrs direct flight from Stockholm to NY, so the timing tracked that Matsson flew as soon as they informed Shiv the decision to go regulatory during breakfast that day. Furthermore, Kendall asked Greg a seemingly simple question regarding Shiv and Matsson. Hence the 'goose trying to sh*t a house brick' confirming he's had suspicions that Shiv was working with Matsson. This is their Michael-Fredo "I knew it was you" scene.

a fantastic scene. Also this is where I did not root for anyone. They are all humongously flawed people. This scene was written to remind us of that before we got too attached. Shiv wanting a non fascist but also to be a power player at gojo waystar, Roman sacrificing the country for his bid to be CEO, Kendall sacrificing the country for his bid to be ceo and then simultaneously saying eff you to his children like his Dad, the poison indeed drips through. Connor’s wife trading in her principles for the perks of ambassadorship. This episode was the ramifications of the selfishness of the players involved. When you have a crazy guy like Matson shocked at how crazy the situation is then you know it was effen crazy. Also look at Greg smashing the knowledge wine bottle like Tom said at Shiv. And finally the "ohhhh fuck" on her face when she sees him talking to Greg. Lol. Throughout the series Shiv is treated like a little girl, and you're kind of like "that's not fair" then she pulls some shit like this and you're like "this is exactly how a little girl would act". Roman's reaction is excellent too. He has two serious moments in this episode; one when he hears that somebody pushed Ken's daughter, and the other when he hears that Shiv is working for Matsson. He's angry and hurt, but he'll worry about it later, because he has a fascist to install in the whitehouse.

i hated shiv more than roman this episode, he was annoying and too pushy but at least his intentions were crystal clear while shiv pretending to care about the country bc it fits her agenda was disgusting, and she actually believes on her own bs sometimes, kendall was unsure about mencken and if she actually cared about the country she would've called nate even if it meant no gojo aquisition, and kendall would side with her had she got a little something from jimenez. also she underestimated greg so much that it was dumb, she knew he knew and what could happen if he tells her brothers and even so prefered to threaten him, tf did she mean by that, "keep your internal organs" doens't even mean anything, she thinks she's unbeatable sometimes and acts all cocky in situations that had she been careful, she would've succeeded, buy greg, get something from nate, save the country and she is smart enough to try to mantain the deal later, but no. from all of the 3 siblings, kendall is the only one who deserves some sort of happy ending honestly. that said, i love this show.

Kendall accidentally killed a guy but never turned himself in, so the boy's parents won't ever get closure. He also never calls or sees his kids. Shiv is always is one small step away from triumph, blocked by her own sheer arrogance and total lack of self-awareness. Nate knew what she was up to, all she had to do was call him and ask him to corroborate if he got a follow-up call! Also, the writing team obviously based much of this episode on the current political climate, but I found this scene in particular to be perfectly representative. The Republicans are still that Simpson's meme "We're just plain evil!". The Democrats too operate entirely out of their own self-interests and thirst for power, but if you stop to question whether your interests are included in those, it's instant pearl clutching as Shiv pulls out here. One of my favorite in the whole series.

Objectively speaking, the only thing Shiv did wrong was be sloppy and falter when confronted. Kendall is making plans to cut out Roman and Shiv and Roman is an idiot doing whatever he wants because, "Dad did whatever he wanted". Both are making moves in their own interest not caring about the collateral. Shiv is looking out for herself because her entire life is a family that lives by one rule, "how does this serve my interest". Shiv's actions are a betrayal yes, but that's natural for a Roy. Ken and Rome know this and are just trying to hurt her out of petty anger.
@Austenwb47 Жыл бұрын
I'd argue that she made another massive mistake which was once again mistreating and alienating potential allies. Shiv betraying Kendall and Roman is fine, but once again she made Tom angry and, when she could have bought Greg's silence, she made a toothless threat against him. Shiv's biggest problem is that she is intelligent but she thinks that she is smarter than everyone else. She also threatens and bullies people who she perceives as beneath her, unlike Logan who kept track of everyone's interests and played them to his advantage. When she was in the room at the end, she found herself with no allies because Kendall did his due diligence, Greg ratted her out, and Tom wouldn't support her. She basically made the same mistakes that she made in the Season 3 finale.
@lorraineioannou Жыл бұрын
It’s not so much about doing wrong. She’s playing the game and making mistakes. @supernaturalawesome1 Жыл бұрын
@@sarazara159 There dad played all of them at one point or another. As for serving the family, he cut them all out in the end of season 3 by re-opening the divorce agreement and pulling control from the company from them so HE could win and sell the company regardless of what they wanted. The whole, "it's for the family" stuff has been pretty well established as B.S. that they use to justify there self serving moves.

Shiv is a front runner who always finishes last due to her own envy and jealousy grounded in the fact that she feels she never got a fair shake because she was born a woman.

She never got a "fair shake" in this company cause she was playing politics until season 2 she's is the most inexperienced not surprised at all Matteson snakes her

This scene shows why Shiv is a bad choice. 1 she can't lie to save her life or at the very least she can't sustain a lie much like we see in season 3 when kendel easily attacks her by just making her uncomfortable during a speech. Another issue is Shiv thinks like a politician, and not a business person which roman and kendel actually had training in working for there father. You can see hoonce roman gets her talking Kendel instantly figures out something is wrong. As a team kendel and roman are amazing. It's kinda sad how Shiv will always be an outsider even in her own family. She really is her mother

I think this could be my favourite scene in the whole series. The look Shiv has as she is getting busted, blabbing away trying to spin her lies. The timing of when the music starts. Roman knowing it’s BS. Shiv getting knocked down after threatening Greg. But the chefs kiss is the smile from Greg as he walks by. Hard to see, and you almost have to pause it, but it’s gold.

Siempre que Shiv Roy miente Sarah Snook hace una inflexión en su voz, ésta se aplana, se torna grave y rápida o lenta dependiendo de quién es. Me encantaaa

I think Connor's described Shiv best: "remember when you used to play post office and stamped all the mail that came into the house?, this is like that. I have no interest in speaking with you"

It was a dumb move but I like how Roman never lost focus of Mencken after learning Shiv was playing both sides. The average person would spiral down that topic

@Jennie K Nah when Shiv is in the right she becomes very likeable, like a few episodes back when she was telling the two of them to stop trying to tank the deal 😂 but when she is in the wrong she really takes the cake
