He didn't once blame the game on that missed penalty etc like some of the blinded fans have. There was some pretty obvious missed calls on both ends so I still believe this game had a fair outcome And i also so feel bad though that the high stick penalty was missed.

Lifetime Oiler fan here and I'm 47. I'll be honest the last 6 or 7 years, I haven't felt the same excitement when playoff time comes around compared to the 90s and even mid 200s when Edm went to the cup final with Carolina. And note I'm a guy who always watches the playoffs even when my team isn't in it or eliminated. But theres something about the last few years that's made hockey fun to watch again!! I think more goals being scored again similar to the 80s and 90s, and more wide open transition hockey is a part of it!! And man this series is so fun to watch but I have grey hairs in my playoff beard already. That overtime had me nervous😂 😂
@oilersridersbluejays
@oilersridersbluejays 14 күн бұрын
It’s definitely the more offence for me. I miss the 80s firewagon hockey. I know we will never go to that rate of scoring again, but we aren’t terribly far below ir. 7-4 scores aren’t uncommon anymore, and 4-1 leads apparently aren’t safe anymore.
@MrMurMC
@MrMurMC 14 күн бұрын
Totally agree. A mix of 80s high scoring with some of the grit of the late 90s to mid 2000s hockey is my favorite period ever. Playoffs were just so exciting to watch no matter what series I flipped to and I'm feeling that again. I am a closet Panthers fan too since they came into the league and that series has been awesome to watch too!! Of course I bleed orange and blue first and foremost always though!! But I think most of us always have a closet 2nd team we like in case our team doesn't make the playoffs or is eliminated so mines always been the Panthers!! 😀

@@jasonjansen9831thanks for the polite response btw and I also really like this Vancouver team and I hope they have many years of success. Great team and great goaltending for the future!! People just get so caught up in angry banter on here instead of friendly chats amongst 2 rival teams. And I still do feel bad about the missed call on Mcdavid but I always say, even when it's a missed call on Van instead, who knows if it would have changed the outcome or not. And I can also relate to poor Demko being out. Reminds me of the Oil losing Roloson on our cup final vs Carolina. But I'm super impressed with Silovs btw. Imagine having to come in 3rd string cold for massive playoff games? So truly I think yesterday Silovs was a major factor the Oil didn't get another goal or 2 earlier in the game I do hope officials can get things more straightened out moving forward too but tbh I think we can both agree it's much funner hockey to watch when they put the whistles away except for blatant penalties of course like high sticks with blood, boarding etc. So I wish you best of luck on this series moving forward and thanks for the kind reply instead of some of the angry ones I normally get lol.

Oilers mega fan here. While I agree with you, I've learned to let some of the ref crap slide in the playoffs only if the crappy reffing goes to both sides and doesn't tilt the game one way. I can honestly say this game was almost even in crappy ref calls at least 😂 I'm sure you agree. Kane did a few rough slew foots and I don't blame him as the Canucks were jabbing the hell out of him and like you said they were battering Hyman and Nuge all game too. I truly think the refs didn't gather to call Mcdavid on the high stick as they indeed knew Canucks were being a bit dirty so they evened it up by not calling Mcdavid. So I can say this one was fairly reffed compared to some horrible games I've seen in the past totally decided by refs!!

Cole was a little too much in the blue paint totally agree. I'm an Oilers fan and I can even agree that Cole should not have been in the blue paint that deep but I see why as he was trying to possibly block the one timer as he saw Hyman behind. But that's the tough tests of a defenceman in hockey. You can try to avoid interfering with your own goalie to prevent a cross seam pass for a one timer etc but if you don't have positional advantage, you also may put it in off your own stick or body sadly like Cole did. Where I will defend Cole though is he's prob watched hours upon hours of Oilers tape leading into this series where hes seen those pretty cross seam passes to Hyman and Draisaitl so when he sees Mcdavid on the rush like that he's remembering that cross seam pass, then he panics to get into position and tries to cover that area and voila it goes off him...... So that's also smart hockey IQ for the Oil as those cross seam passes work so well that it has Dmen sometimes going against their own logic to defend it!!

On the scoresheet, yes. But the Canucks couldn't contain McDavid AND Draisaitl on the same line and gave up far more chances this game. This is neither/both a good/bad thing for both teams. Riding those 2 to the bone to beat Canucks will cost them if they advance, and if this goal takes the monkey off Petey's back, then the Canucks will have other ways to beat them(and each game they push the series is another for Demko to possibly make a return, we can look at Oilers needing to put that line out for 30+ minutes to beat our 3rd string minder as a pretty nice sign).

Don’t blame Ian Cole it was a unlucky bounce. We were in that position because soucy wanted body check mcdavid leaving myers by himself only for him to collapse on the ice giving mcdavid time on a break away to score

I think fans etc blaming Cole are either angry Van fans are or more teasing about Cole like I was. I am an Oilers fan and I agree with you though. Bouchard didn't just throw that puck there as a fluke, it was def intentional. High IQ players know that an accidental tipped or deflection goal is just as good as any goal so its not really Coles fault other than he shouldn't be that close in the blue paint where Silovs wouldn't have even been able to kick his pad out to save it. So I feel bad for Cole but this is playoffs hockey so of course us armchair analysts will have fun teasing about the Cole goal etc. So it's more than likely angry Van fans who do need to give Cole a break agreed. 👍

@@MrMurMC I completely agree it could have went three ways in Bouchard mind. 1 pass goes through 2 pass can tip off a foot or stick in traffic and goes in 3 Canucks save the puck/ intercepts the puck. Soucy didn’t need to check mcdavid all he needed to do was stay back. Don’t chase the player chase the puck. That’s the key for the Canucks to win. Don’t chase the body or mcdavid. get the frickin puck out of his hands. Same said with draistl.

Iv watch 90% of the play offs games this year and every game I've watched has had some really sketchy calls being made by the refs. Check out last night with Florida/bruins. Florida player puts a bruin in a head lock and then guides/pushes them both into the Florida goalie.. refs raises his arm for holding and the other ref says nah goalie interference instead...

I feel the Canuck fans' pain...the Pens have lost so many games, over the last few years because of Kris Letang deflecting pucks past his own goalie.

In the other hand the Canucks were so badly outplayed in the third period that they were lucky to get into overtime in the first place. The Oilers could have had two or three in the third.

Canucks were outplayed this game but still like their chances in a bo7. 30+ min each game for McD and Dri is unsustainable. Just keep grinding them down. The rest of the edm is a non-threat with a loaded top line.

First star of the game Kelly Sutherland. Bravo. Now I will say the Canucks didn't deserve to win they played like trash especially in the third, but Sutherland is a complete disgrace to hockey and should be fired.

Calls were missed on both teams. Longtime Oilers fan here and it's easy to blame officiating, hockey has a way of balancing out in the end. As long as both teams have fun and exercise

Totally agree. I gave up debating with the type of fans that have full blinders on and can only see infractions that happen to "their" team. Im an Oilers fan too and love the Sportsnet analysts especially Bieksa as he calls it down the line and he's a heart and sole Canucks man. He showed and discussed so many refs mishaps on both sides so this game imo was 100% down the line fair reffing without tipping the scale to one team. And none of us can help the missed call on Mcdavid but we don't have a time machine so even if Van got a 4 minute major who's the say it would change anything and on the other side of the coin, if refs call too many men and then Van doesn't get the 3-2 goal after, do Oilers win? This is why I'm truly glad the refs put the whistles away for both teams most of this game. It was a really good gritty game down the line and I liked it a lot.
